Smokers believed that smoking is like heaven that releases all your stress and problems furthermore only smokers can understand their fellow smokers. For all over the years the consumption of cigarettes increases and the government must do something about that. Taxation is one of the methods of the government in which they finance their expenditures by implementing charges on citizens and corporate entities (Business dictionary, 2013). The government uses taxation to discourage certain economic decision this time smoking.
According to media reports cigarette smoking is the major cause of cancer death worldwide. Since cigarette smoking is an obtained behavior meaning people choose to that, so in short, smoking is a preventable cause of death in our society. Smoking is the main source of many fatal health problems for example heart disease, bronchitis, emphysema, and stroke. According to studies smokers die younger as compare to non- smokers. Smoking habit destroys the quality of an individual. In line with this smoking related illness constraints breathing, get around, work or play.
Does increasing the taxation on cigarettes greatly affect the smokers’ behavior? Since cigarette smoking is addictive, we deal with people who have excessive cravings for cigarettes. Hence, the increase in taxation of cigarettes only affects the lower class of the society. A study shows that it has a great impact on smokers who has a lower socio- economic status. On the other hand, rich people don’t mind at all about the inflation of cigarette prices. For them, they are still capable to sustain their desires.
` Imagine a world without cigarette maybe the money that smokers will spend on cigarette will go to other beneficial things like food and medicines and maybe lesser health problems.

Tobacco taxation is an essential component of a comprehensive tobacco control strategy. However, to fully realize the benefits it is vital to understand the impact of increased taxes among high-risk subpopulations. Are they influenced to the same extent as the general population? Do they need additional measures to influence smoking behavior? The objectives of this study were to synthesize the evidence regarding differential effects of taxation and price on smoking in: youth, young adults, persons of low socio-economic status, with dual diagnoses, heavy/long-term smokers, and Aboriginal people. Using a better practices approach, a knowledge synthesis was conducted using a systematic review of the literature and an expert advisory panel. Experts were involved in developing the study plan, discussing findings, developing policy recommendations, and identifying priorities for future research. Most studies found that raising cigarette prices through increased taxes is a highly effective measure for reducing smoking among youth, young adults, and persons of low socioeconomic status. However, there is a striking lack of evidence about the impact of increasing cigarette prices on smoking behavior in heavy/long-term smokers, persons with a dual diagnosis and Aboriginals. Given their high prevalence of smoking, urgent attention is needed to develop effective policies for the six subpopulations reviewed. These findings will be of value to policy-makers and researchers in their efforts to improve the effectiveness of tobacco control measures, especially with subpopulations at most risk. Although specific studies are needed, tobacco taxation is a key policy measure for driving success.…
