NHS Statement

It was an honor for me to be invited to join NHS. I’ve been interested in joining this club because I am looking for ways to enhance my interest in education, and National Honor Society seems like the perfect opportunity to fulfill this goal. I’d like to become more involved in helping out my community by providing service hours. Fundraising is also something I want to become more professional at doing. I describe myself as a very dedicated student. My parents, brothers, and teachers are the people who encourage me most of all. Without them, I feel my academic placement would be very low. My brothers, especially, push me to do my best by placing high standards that I later on try to reach. Although it may be sometimes difficult comparing myself to my brothers, I know it’s a great way to persevere myself to learn. I joined National Junior Honor in middle school because I was really interested in providing community service. Some of the service I did was towards tutoring and helping teachers after school. I now help out with my church by looking after younger children, cleaning up the worship space, and baking for the homeless. Because I am also in Key Club, I’m always looking for different community service opportunities. I’ve participated in events such as helping out the neighbors and working at the Haunted Harvest at the Springs Preserve. The committee I plan on joining is Fundraising. I want to join this committee because I’d love to help the school raise money. I’ve done small fundraisers before, but not enough to feel like I’d made a difference in the community. I’ve already begun brainstorming ideas to raise money for the school such as selling hot chocolate and Halloween accessories for the upcoming fall season. Some ideas for the money we’d raise could be used to build a new field for the students who have a penchant for playing sports. We could also use the money to fund towards

Personally, I have been involved in my community since I was in the Boy Scouts of America. As I acsended through to the top rank of Boy Scouts known as an Eagle Scout, many projects were conducted. For example, I have planned and conducted my own Eagle Scout project in 2009; this project consisted of building a roof for my local firehouse. Other community service includes roadside clean-ups, annual earth day events, and fellow Eagle Scout projects. Since my community college career, I have been well involved with our campus and community. Particularly in Phi Theta Kappa, the national honor society of all community colleges, where I have become the President of our chapter. Within the society, the objectives include a honor's in action project…

As quite the introvert, I never would have imagined myself as the secretary of such a renowned organization: the National Honor Society. However, I had decided to take on the challenge of running for board, requiring me to give a speech to our 500+ NHS members. My strengths did not lie in public speaking or persuasion like the other candidates. Instead, my speech involved me singing Mulan’s “Be a Man,” using ingenuity and humor to win over opinions. I believe that pushing yourself into an unfamiliar situation is the best way to learn and grow, as this approach demands problem solving and innovative thinking. NHS has pushed me to be more outgoing and active in the community by giving me the privilege of leadership, and I would definitely serve…

I was involved in many service learning experiences all throughout highschool. I was on National Honors Society and we would ring bells for Salvation Army and adopt children around Christmas time. We often volunteered at schools to help watch children, while parents were receiving help in finding careers or when they were being helped in some other manner. However, my favorite service learning that I was involved in was helping coach Special Olympics. This service learning is one of the reasons I am becoming a teacher, and one of the main reasons why my focus is Special Education. I coached my team in soccer, basketball, and track. I loved every minute of it. I spent more time with those kids than I have with any other service learning combined. I coached them starting my sophomore year all the way until I left for college. It was hard leaving my team and I am upset that I cannot go back and see them more often. Service learning has made a huge impact on my life and is something that everyone should become involved with. When you find that one cause that you are passionate about helping with it can transform your life like it did…

Since I was young I have always volunteered for my Catholic Youth Group. At first I didn 't know many people there and wasn 't very enthusiastic. Later, as I got to know the other kids and starting pushing myself to join in the activities, I learned to enjoy and relish my time there. Some activities we did was decorating the nursing home for Christmas, singing carols, writing letters to the residents, and just sitting there visiting and listening to what they had to share. I have realized how important the elderly are to our society and I truly appreciate the advice they gave me. It was a very rewarding experience and I got to do many things I wouldn 't have had an opportunity to do otherwise.…

I was extremely excited when I found out that I have to do a Service Learning Project for this class because I have always enjoyed doing community service since I started doing it in high school. I had a hard time deciding what to do in the beginning, but later I realized that I could be a leader of the Awana club at my church. Working with kids is something that I enjoy doing, so that is why I made the decision to do my community service at Awana. One item that I don’t really consider community service, Is my Friday Night Live mentoring group. In this mentoring group the high school students go mentor middle school students about staying above the influence, and helping them out. Showing them that there more to life than alcohol, drugs, suicide, and cutting. I personally enjoy spending time with the kids and doing activities with them. This program has shown me that if we try to make a small difference on someone’s life it can mean a whole new opening to them. I have taught myself that life always goes on, no matter how hard it gets. That someone out there is going to help you out if you ask for help. This program has really given me a new insight on helping people. Chris is the guy who runs this program. He seems so…
