What I Gained from Social Psychology

Social psychology, theory, and methods gave me insight into figuring out how people I deal with tick. In the work place you will usually find groups of friends who stick together as well as people you won’t be able to get along with. Even outside of the work force social psychology and theories will give each and every one of us the insight to better understand people and their groups. This class has given me more insight to help better know that not everyone thinks as I do and we won’t always agree on a subject. Most people grow though the experiences they are subject to while growing and not everyone will have the opportunity to be exposed to everything while growing up. I will come across people who will not understand why cultures and ethnicity groups do what they do and now I can look at these cultures with an open mind and learn to accept them for who they are and what they believe. Understanding ethical principles in psychology has been a constant through my time at Capella. It is so important to stand outside any subject and hold an open mind. Being professional and holding ourselves with a conduct to look at a problem from all angles and try to not pass judgment. This is important for all people to learn not just students. In my job my company wants me to do what is best for the company. Sometimes I must find ways around what the company wants and to make it work for the customer. Critical thinking, logical reasoning, and problem-solving for psychology professionals is a must. This gives us the knowledge to hold an open mind and to help others with all the tools available to us and not just what we feel is right. With working with these aspects it has helped me to think things through before I act or talk. For instance when I am agitated I know now to stop and collect myself and think in a more and logical sense to avoid an outburst or making bad decisions.
