1. In the nifty lifting machine Kenny, Kaylee and I used three simple machines. We used a pulley system as our first simple machine. The pulleys are what allowed pulling the 600 gram can up the five centimeters. My group also used a wheel and axle, which is the crank that we used to pull up the cans. The wheel is the gear and the axle is the dowel rod we used to tie the rope around. Then we used a wedge to stop the gear on the wheel and axle from moving. This is what put the force on the rope to pull the rope up.
2. Explain what knowledge was gained creating your machine in your prototype.
I gained lots of knowledge during this project because Kenny, Kaylee, and I had free reign on our machines. First, I …show more content…
How was knowledge applied in the design of your final product?
Kenny, Kaylee, and I took the good parts of our prototype, which are the four column structure, the base and the roof and added those ideas with some new ones. First, we made a new design by screwing the pulleys into the roof instead of hanging the pulley by a hook. Second, we increased the height of the structure. Third we and the cranked more stable and overall better. The crank now has a gear so that the wedge would stop the gear from moving the rope. Finally, we took the cross bars off of the sides as well because the crossbars only added more weight that was not needed.
4. What was the division of ideas, labor and materials per person among your group? In our group Kenny did most of the built the materials at home. Kenny also suggested ideas for our final plan of attack. Then as a group we put the entire crane together. Kaylee brought in the bigger magnetic, did the technical drawing, and thought of the idea for having a bigger base. I helped put the prototype together and, came up with the design and introduced the idea of (maybe replace the word about with “of”) the pulleys being attached directly to the
