What Safety Mean To Me
What safety means to me is success. The success is not having any unsafe behaviors. Unsafe behaviors will lead to an accident. With turn over it makes it tough to instill the culture in new TM the first day, all we can do is start guiding them on the path. The plan I follow is to talk to each of them and ask what type of work they have done in the past. By having that extra knowledge can guide you on what type of work they may be more capable of doing safely from the start. I also explain to them that safety is the most important thing they will do each day. I explain that it is a big deal if we have an injury; it means we have failed in some area. If they have anything they are unsure of or fill unsafe they are to stop and contact someone.

    In order to provide safety, it demands an effort of the entire facility as a whole. As stated in the IHI Open School Basic Modules, the four main characteristics are “psychological safety, active leadership, transparency, and fairness”. I would create a safe environment in the healthcare setting by addressing any concerns the patient and/ or staff may have, being respectful and open-minded. I would create an open door policy, promoting communication and offering knowledge to ensure quality care and patient safety.
