What My High School Reunion
An automobile, a vibrant red and black Jaguar XJ220, pulls up to the front of the school. Its darkened, mirrored windows reflect the faces of a huge crowd, waiting breathlessly for the car door to open. A man steps out of the driver's side, dressed in a black suit, with a red shirt and white tie as he provides a smile of James Bond, the famous 007 agent of our time. He walks around the front of the car and helps his date get out. The two of them walks hand in hand towards the school as flashes go off and people pointing at them. As the beautiful couple enters the building, an old mustang staggers its way through the parking lot. I get out, wearing a jacket and tie, and run towards the school. My hair disorganized, and my socks mismatched. I was late because I started reading a good book earlier that evening and lost track of time. I reach the front doors of the school, and glance at the glass reflection. A thin, bald man stares back at me through black-framed glasses. He is wearing a corny tie, which is a little too small, and a belt, cinched up tight. He pats down his hair, smiles, and a little bit of laughter appears in his eye. Happy with the world, I open the glass paned door and enter. I catch sight of some of my friends, grouped in a circle, each sharing the story of where they had been since graduation. I step right in and listen in on the trials of the Law Exam, the little things a friend can do to annoy me once in awhile, and a chance encounter with the President, before he had become President. My turn comes, and I begin my story. I had gone to college, as most of my friends had, but I stayed longer than I originally planned. The company that hired me for my first Co-op was so impressed, that they offered me a job right then. I loved it there, helping to think up new ways to make some money for the company, and I loved the challenge of working on many projects at once, but I loved school more. I arranged to Co-op with them each

I went to my room and packed all of my belongings into two massive suitcases and loaded them into my old Holden Astra. I took some money from my mother's stash, neatly tucked away, out of sight under the bottom drawer of her bedside table, and then left for the next town over. I found a cheap motel where I stayed a few weeks, trying to find someone that would hire a 17 year old girl that dropped out of year 11. I got a job working at some fast food place that I hadn’t heard of before, and I still can’t remember what it was called.…

At exactly 6pm the bell was rung which signaled to everyone that dinner was now ready. We all piled in to eat an assortment of chicken, rice, vegetables, and salad. After dinner a bunch of the girls, including myself, sat on the dock letting our feet dangle down by the water and sharing stories trying to get to know one another better. I was surprised to find that a lot of us actually had a lot more in common, other than being in the honors program, then I would of imagined. Later on that night we all gathered around a camp fire enjoying our smore's and anticipating what the next day had in store for us.…

    High School Valedictorian

In the essay, “The Joy of Graduating” by Kate Stone Lombardi, describes the traditional high school valedictorian competition with the most prestigious students. The fight for the position of valedictorian has intensified over the years. Danielle Gorman, an elected valedictorian at Moorestown High School in New Jersey, was quoted by Lombardi of the qualifications and standards it took to become valedictorian. The traits Gorman describes common to valedictorians were taking on too much and are unwilling to fail. I think that Gorman’s assessment is reasonable because many people who strive to become valedictorian take on “more than they can chew” by taking multiple advanced placement classes to extracurricular activities in…

My phone was glued to my hand by the sweat of my hand, I held it all though the night. I had waited for this day for over a year, and I couldn’t understand what was holding me back from jumping out of my bed and leaping into the car. Dragging my feet over to my dresser, I slipped on the mandatory blue jersey polo and cringed as I saw myself in the mirror; I looked like a mess. While eating a blueberry bagel, I grabbed my carry on and suit case and headed out to the car. I could barely keep my eyes open and my stomach was filing with butterflies the closer we got to the…

At one-thirty in the afternoon, Carolee Mitchell was running the vacuum cleaner, or she would have heard the first sirens and looked out. After the first, there weren’t any others. The calling voices, even the number of dogs barking, could have been students on their way back to school, high-spirited in the bright, cold earliness of the year. Thinking back on the sounds, Carolee remembered a number of car doors being slammed, that swallow of air and report which made her smooth her hair automatically even if she wasn’t expecting anyone. But what caught her eye finally was what…

Sophomore and junior year I sailed the world, discovering pieces of myself along the journey. With newfound wisdom, I returned to where I had previously anchored myself: Student Board. It looked the same as when I had left it, but I was a new sailor, a seasoned one. My experiences on the seas seemed monumental compared to the ones I had while anchored in this spot. That sophomore storm was no longer a hurricane, but a rain shower; that denial email was no longer a burden, but a…

It's happens all the time. High School Sweethearts go off to college. Usually, they go off to different colleges and that ends it pretty quickly. But what happens when they actually go to the same college and see each other every day? It may be more difficult to break it off, but as people grow and mature, especially at that age, they tend to go their separate ways. And that's OK. It's almost expected. There are occasions where they stay together and live happily ever after, but that's not the norm. For young couples in this situation, the important thing is not to focus so much on the ever after and enjoy the time spent together today, in the present. Don’t rush into marriage too quickly.…

If life is full of journeys, high school is one of the journeys that experienced and completed by all of us. High school life is a memorable time for most people, for me as well. Different from America’s education system, Malaysia is more similar to British’s educational system as Malaysia was colonized by the United Kingdom during late 20th century. Malaysia has primary school for which student study from six until twelve years old while secondary school is for thirteen until eighteen years old. As we do not have four seasons, our school starts from January and ends at November. My high school, Pay Fong High School, is one of the secondary school that consists of three years junior classes and three years senior classes.…

All thoughts of burglars and stalkers fled from my mind as I slipped back the last latch and flung open the door. There she stood, a lone and forlorn figure on the doorstep. The torrential rain had drenched her from head to toe, the rivulets of rainwater gleaming in the dim light of the hallway down her back and formed a puddle at her feet. She had changed much, yet I could still recognize her as the dear friend from my school years. Her business suit was wet and hung limply from her tall frame, but it was obviously of an expensive cut. She held a small briefcase tightly in one hand. Even in my state of semi-shock, I could see that she was unusually nervous, for she gripped the handle so tightly I could see her knuckles shining white in the dim light. Her eyes, those fiery, piercing eyes which always seemed to dance with laughter during our school days were not dancing now…
