What Is the Universe?

The Universe is a vast, enormous space that holds everything that exists from the smallest subatomic particles to the largest galaxies. Galaxies and solar systems are constantly clashing and creating new worlds within our Universe. Within these billions of galaxies, are solar systems. Our solar system, the Milky Way, contains many stars, planets, black holes and everything in between. The universe is a net that holds everything that exists. Everything that is not within the universe, is non-existent, therefore everything that the universe is “not”, also does not exist. Whatever does not exist within the Universe is not assigned a specific word or definition.

The Earth is one aspect of the Universe. In our solar system, the Earth is the third planet from the Sun. It is located between the planets Venus and Mars. The Earth is a terrestrial planet composed of various types of rocks and life forms. The human species inhabits the Earth. Humans can tell the position of the Earth, in terms of the Universe, by using tools such as telescopes. Humans can conclude that the Earth is in a specific galaxy based upon the surrounding planets and stars. Using tools such as robots and telescopes deepen our understanding of the position of the Earth. Geology is the study of the Earth and humans also use geological tools to study how the earth was formed and how it has developed since. Through geology, humans can better understand what the Earth is comprised of from its mantle to the core. For example, the study of Earth can also lead to a better understanding of the formation of igneous rocks such as granite or understanding certain mineral groups such as serpentine. The Earth is constantly changing and humans are still trying to understand and interpret its geological history.

Personally, I have spent countless nights lying awake in bed thinking about how vast the Universe is and how complex geology can be. For example, I love going to the beach and enjoying a nice sunset
