What Is The Tone Of Superman And Me

In this past week the class read a short story written by Sherman Alexie. The name of this particular short story is “Superman and Me.” The story is actually an autobiography he wrote about his younger years as a child on an Indian reservation on up until he made something of himself. Alexie used many different strategies to get his point across to his readers. He wanted his readers, especially young Indian children, to become inspired from his life story and prosper into their fullest potential. Throughout the short story Alexie uses tone to apply emphasis on certain things he wants his readers to feel. Tone is the attitude of the writer towards a certain subject. He shows this in the words he chooses and the actions he takes throughout
There are seven different patterns of organization: compare and contrast orders, cause and effect order, chronological order, order of importance, sequence, problem and solution, and spatial. Alexie uses chronological order in his short story to document the things that occurred throughout his life from age three to when he is a grown man standing in front of young children as he tries to inspire them. This is shown by how in the first paragraph as Alexie introduces himself at the age of three. Then he continues to rise in age as the story rises in action. After the climax of the story it is revealed that Alexie wrote the story as if it were a flashback in his mind. Afterwards, he continues to write the rest of the story in present tense showing that he was then talking about himself in the time he wrote “Superman and Me.” Finally, the last literary term Alexie uses is syntax. Syntax is the arrangement of words into phrasing patterns, repetition, different sentence types or lengths.
