What Is The Theme Of Five Little Monkeys Bake A Birthday Cake
Many people know the story Five Little Monkeys jumping on the bed, well it has a sequel called Five Little Monkeys bake a birthday cake. It’s meant to be cute and innocent monkeys doing something nice for their mother, but really it’s a murder plot. The monkey’s are all actually homicidal towards each other and their mother. Within the first few pages the monkeys have already set one part of their plan into motion. They try to kill their mother by making her ill. They do this by making her a cake. One step of making the cake is to sift the ingredients together, but they were told not to sneeze by a sister (4). Immediately after four of them sneeze and sister said, “Sh-h-h! Don’t wake up Mama!” (6). When baking you don’t sneeze into the food …show more content…
The next step was to burn the house down. They finished making the cake and put it in the oven. They all move to the living room to make presents and no one is watching the cake. Suddenly one of the monkeys, says, “Do you smell something burning?” (15). They then race past Mama sleeping and say “Sh-h-h! Don’t wake up Mama!” (16). They then get into the kitchen and realized the cake dripped in the oven. They take the cakes out and say “Sh-h-h! Don’t wake up Mama!” (18). Firefighters show up and ask about a fire. The monkey’s are holding the cakes and there is no Mama to be found. They left her in the house with the dripped cake still in the oven possibly causing a fire. Their plan was to catch the house on fire and call the firefighters to put it out. They conveniently forget to fetch Mama, because they were so busy with the cakes. They called the firefighters a little too early and the house never caught on fire. This was the biggest part of their plan, but the back-up in case the house didn’t burn down; is that the cake will get her sick. One big part of this whole plot is that Mama has to stay asleep. If she were to wake up, she could ruin their plan. After every “accident” they say “Sh-h-h! Don’t wake up Mama!”. At that point they go check on Mama, then say. “She’s still asleep. We can finish making the cake.” (7,12) Making the cake is code word for try to kill Mama because it’s all a cover-up. Every step

In “The Monkey’s Paw,” the theme of despair is explored through the author’s characterization of Mr. and Mrs. White after Herbert’s death. "I'm sorry----" began the visitor. "Is he hurt?" demanded the mother. The visitor bowed in assent. "Badly hurt," he said quietly, "but he is not in any pain. "Oh, thank God!" said the old woman, clasping her hands. "Thank God for that! Thank----" She broke off suddenly as the sinister meaning of the assurance dawned upon her and she saw the awful confirmation of her fears in the other's averted face. She caught her breath, and turning to her slower-witted husband, laid her…

A suspenseful and horrific piece of literature, “The Monkey Paw” is written by W.W Jacobs. A quaint family of three receives an unusual monkey paw that is capable of making any three wishes come true. Despite the caveat of a curse attached to the paw, the family chooses to make a wish, evoking from the story a suspenseful attitude as the reader becomes wrapped up in finding out the Smiths’ fated ends. With the combination of W.W Jacobs’ settings, characters, and foreshadowing, the theme of the story, “that fate cannot be decided upon by man” is delivered pointedly and with style.…

People disregard the warnings of others all the time; whether it is from a teacher, a parent, or perhaps an older sibling (Attention grabber). As displayed in W.W Jacobs’s short story, “The Monkeys Paw”, about a family’s fate-changing experience with a magical paw (Transition). The cynical paw, in fact, belonged to a monkey; it contained three wishes for three different people (Background). There are countless warnings given to the White family through out the story, yet foolish decisions continue to be made (Background).…

Marsha Norman's ‘night, Mother illustrates a central point about the nature of what creates drama in a play: the anticipation of an outcome. In this case, that means that Mama, and the story's audience, learns early on of Jessie's plans. And because of learning Jessie's plans, both Mama and the story's audience are thrust deep into the heart of this story's question: Will Jessie really kill herself, or can Mama find a way to stop her? What's at stake in this story is also made very clear: Jessie's going to kill herself. Can Mama talk her out of it? The central issue that 'night, Mother delivers is that the more reasons Mama tries to grasp to convince Jessie not to kill herself, the more she reaffirms Jessie's belief that her life is useless and it's simply better to end her suffering with a clear mind. The play opens on what appears to be a typical Saturday night for Jessie and Mama. Mama finds the last snowball -- some junk food -- in the fridge, Jessie asks for some black plastic bags. It's on their schedule that Jessie will give Mama a manicure. Then Jessie asks: JESSIE: Where's Daddy's gun? Life for Jessie and Mama is such a dull routine, Mama doesn't even pause to consider the request odd. She evens helps Jessie figure out where the gun is kept. It's not until half a column later that Mama asks: MAMA: What do you want the gun for, Jess? JESSIE: Protection. Mama at first considers that she and Jessie have nothing to steal, and what was valuable was stolen by Jessie's son, Ricky. MAMA: I mean, I don't even want what we got, Jessie. Jessie begins cleaning the gun, and soon the stage directions set out that Mama is now concerned about it. JESSIE: The gun is for me. MAMA: Well, you can have it if you want. When I die, you'll get it anyway. JESSIE: I'm going to kill myself, Mama. At first Mama yells at Jessie for her bad "joke," but Jessie patiently insists she's serious. Mama then insists the gun won't work because the bullets are fifteen years old. Jessie tells…
