I am currently fulfilling my passion as social work intern at Interfaith Ministries – Meals on Wheels (MOW) which is located on 3303 Main St. Houston TX. 77002. MOW has been around for many years assisting homebound older adults usually over the age of sixty with nutritional meals. MOW provides more than 4,300 meals in the Houston area. However MOW just recently expanded their routes to service some parts of Galveston. There are some eligible clients that qualify for additional meals such as breakfast, frozen weekend meals. I have noticed a higher population of Hispanic, African-American, and Caucasian clients, mostly in low poverty areas and have little-to-low income. There are many homebound clients that do not have social support and just…

Murray’s physical capacity is restricted to sedentary work that involves lifting up to 10 pounds at a time, occasionally, and requires occasional walking and standing, for up to 2 hours a day (he cannot stand for about 3 hours without experiencing discomfort). To avoid pain exacerbation, Clayton is recommended to refrain from performing job duties requiring long hours of standing, walking, lifting and carrying heavy objects. Considering that these activities are essential for a maintenance staff member position and a baker helper, and that modifications of these job duties are not possible to accommodate this client, Mr. Murray might have to find an alternative work that is more suitable for his medical condition. Because of his functional intellectual disability, this client may not have the capacity to engage in training to become more employable. However, he received on-the-job training in blueprint reading at Marcus Brothers Constructions. Clayton is recommended to seek an employment with a company that could utilize this skill (that is not physically demanding) and the same time provide required accommodations for his impairment. Additionally, Mr. Murray should explore job opportunities that are in a close proximity to his home and accessible by public transportation that he has to occasionally relay on. Long hours spent on the bus and walking to the bus station might aggravate his medical…

F.A.R.M Cafe was the catalyst for my topic, and Bobby inspired me to think about the injustice that people with intellectual disabilities face. My first time there was in September, and I had a preconceived idea that it would similar to a soup kitchen, and I would be feeding homeless people. F.A.R.M Cafe stands from Feed All Regardless of Means, so I thought many homeless people would be there for a free meal. However, I was completely wrong with F.A.R.M Cafe you pay what you can, and if you can not either you work for an hour, or take a token in which someone has already paid for. Many of the workers are volunteers and a few get paid. An interesting characteristic about that cafe is that, much of their food is locally grown. My first day there, I was scheduled for a two hour shift. I was nervous, the only thing I could think about was if I was going to fit in. I knew no one, I had never severed food before, nor washed dishes in a restaurant kitchen. So, I just knew I was going to mess up, and make a fool of myself. I was wrong. Once I walked over the threshold, I was welcomed with open arms. The first person I met was Bobby. He ran up to me, and…

Vernon’s Bright Minds Adult Daycare Center-For Adults with Autism is the new organization I am introducing into the marketplace. In today’s society there are many families facing the dilemma of placing a child with autism who has become an adult in a comfortable setting while he or she has to work. In this micro analysis I will be analysing the film Blade which was produced in 1998 and directed by Stephen Norrington. The micro elements I am going to focus on are Mise-en-scene and cinematography. I will be analysing everything in the scene including props, costumes, facial expressions, gestures, setting, codes-framing to determine how it creates meaning. In cinematography I will focus on the camera shots and angles and how these are used to create meaning. Both of these micro elements will be combined to show how they work together in creating meaning for the audience in the scene that I am studying.…

When it came to choosing a community, I had chosen the Mazeppa Food Shelf. Although the organization is somewhat small, the choices that we make and what we are able to accomplish can have a powerful impact on numerous individuals and families. Initially, I had set a few different goals that I would like to see implemented within this community. These included improving the communication between the members of the food shelf, educating individuals about paperwork, a possible update on the entry system, and working on the organizational aspects of the food shelf.…

The Meals on Wheels association is best known for delivering meals and providing health checkups for elderly individuals in their homes. Senior malnourishment is a largely unaddressed problem in America, and Meals on Wheels is a great organization that tries to provide solutions to the situation.
