First of all, Chile have many major active fault zones that are the root causes of earthquakes and other natural diaster. The Liquiñe-Ofqui Fault is major geological fault that runs a length of roughly 1000 km in a north-south direction and exhibits current seismicity. It is located in the Chilean Northern Patagonian Andes. It is a dextral intra-arc transform fault. When considered a fault zone, the Liquiñe-Ofqui Fault Zone (LOFZ) might include other neighboring faults such as Reigolil-Pirihueico Fault.     Los Angeles was built on a myriad of transform faults that include Santa Monica fault, the San Fernando fault, and Northridge/Santa Barbara fault. Even though these faults are not as well-known as the San Andreas Fault, where it margins are between the Pacific and North American plates that cross Southern California. Los Angeles is sitting near at least 60 known faults. The earth still moves frequently in these smaller less known areas. One example of this is the earthquake that was focused in the Northridge area happened in January 1994. It only lasted 30 seconds registering at 6.7 on the Richter scale but the aftershocks lasted for several days afterwards. Ground displacement is the second hazard main of earthquakes. Especially if there is a building or roadway on or near the fault line. This quake alone killed 60 people, and injuring thousands.     In general, the map that contained all the earthquake distributions mostly had shallow quakes spread around. Deep quakes on the map were a lot less common. I would estimate that about 85%-90% of the earthquakes were shallow quakes. There were only three earthquakes on the map that had a magnitude of 7.0 or greater. The earthquakes that appeared to have occurred along spreading zones made up about 80% of the earthquakes on the map. Earthquakes that have occurred in these areas generally have ocean ridges. The other areas where earthquakes happen are on subduction zones where there usually are ocean trenches and oceanic mountain ranges. About 13% of the earthquakes on the map occurred along subduction zones. Out of all of the earthquakes on the map, I would say that about twenty of the quakes do not appear to be associated with any active plate boundary. The most powerful earthquakes that were plotted on the map occurred along subduction zones. The deepest earthquakes on the map also occurred along subduction zones. The geological factors that might explain the different levels of earthquake activity seen in the Atlantic and Pacific Ocean basins is that in the Atlantic Ocean basin, there is a divergent spreading zone. On the other hand, the Pacific Ocean basin is on a subduction zone. Overall in the three-week period, the population centers that experienced the largest numbers of earthquakes were East India and Indonesia.     The idea of a lithosphere system is divided into three parts, inputs, processes and outputs. The input is the ideas, information and the resources of the system. The main core of the system is the Earth's inner core which contained radioactive minerals during the creation of Earth few billion years ago.
