What Is The Exegesis Of Jn 4: 5-42
In the Gospel for this week JN 4:5-42 we go with the story of the Smatherin Woman and what happen between her and Jesus at the well. This whole Gospel was a journey of dialogue. We see the woman life and how she has made some poor choice and we also see her faith in the dialogue she has with Jesus throughout the whole story of the Gospel. In the beginning of the story we see Jesus walking back to a well and all the apostle went to go get food for Jesus which is kinda weird that they all went. At that well there was Samaritan woman there who Jesus ask to get water for him and the weird thing is that she is out at noon and usually your suppose to get water in the morning so she probably has problem talking to people or doesn't get along with …show more content…
Then she said You don’t have a bucket and ask Jesus if he is greater than our father Jacob who gave us this cistern? This comes to show that this woman knows her scripture. Jesus reply that whoever drinks out of this water they will be thirsty again but whoever drinks my water will never be thirsty again. What this is saying is that yes he is because he has water that will never make you thirst again. She ask for this water and then Jesus says go call your husband, and she responds I do not have a husband. Jesus said you are right for you have had seven husband. Which comes to show that all her relationship with them must be short is she has had seven, which is a lot. This is really long so I'm just going now to point out the main events that has happen but anyway she told Jesus that she knows He is a prophet that her ancestors have been worshipping. Again showing that she knows scripture. Jesus then goes on to telling her that he is that prophet named Christ. At that point the apostles show up and ask why are you talking to this woman which to me is weird because aren't hey suppose to get along with

Mary Rowlandson also compares herself to David in Psalms 27. 13. I had fainted, unless I had believed. She is talking about when she arrived in the Indian town, Wenimesset. Mary saw that it was filled with Pagans, who she considered her enemies (223). In her thirteenth remove Mary compared herself with Job once again, Have pitty upon me, have pitty upon me, O ye my Frends, for the Hand of the Lord has touched me. She states, “I thought I had been quite blinded...that by the morning, I had recovered my sight again(234).” Mary feels like she is blessed because when things start going downhill she is picked back…

    Lucretia Mott Analysis

She supports this by mentioning that "many women are there now immolated upon the shrine of superstition and priestcraft, in our very midst, in the assumption that man only has a right to the pulpit, and that if a woman enters it she disobeys God; making woman believe in the misdirection of her vocation, and that it is of divine authority that she should be thus bound" (Mott 3). She speaks about this with great authority as she herself is in a religious leadership position. The Bible is clear on women preaching, women prophesying, and women leading in churches all over Jerusalem and Judea. Many early Christian leaders and preachers were women, such as Mary Magdalene, Nympha and Phoebe. Moreover, Phoebe is described by Paul as a deaconess and she delivered one of Paul's letters to the church in Rome. This evidence does not seem to be taken into account by the age's Christian leaders, and consequently is concealed from general knowledge, as can be seen in Rev. John Chambers address at the World Temperance Convention. Women who aspired to become religious leaders could not fulfill their calling because men had decided that they were not fit for the task. Women had no say on the matter, and their choice on whether or not they wanted to be in that position of authority was taken away from…

By including the struggles she encountered in her lifetime and the labor she did that white women did not experience, she tries to persuade her audience that black women might deserve equal rights to men more than the white woman. She uses facts and logic to persuade, and by deduction, she illustrates that women are not inferior to men. Truth uses effective appeals by pointing out that someone as significant and powerful as Jesus Christ was conceived and born without the involvement of a man. Mother Mary was a woman and she created the most influential man in history without a man. This shows that a woman can make consequential differences that a man could never make and it elevates her speech further. Truth’s illiteracy was an anchor to her credibility, but she did not let that keep her from speaking her opinion. She attempts to compel the audience and put each one of them in her shoes by briefly giving several examples of her unpleasant enslavement. For the effective use of pathos, she tells the audience that she gave birth to thirteen children and could on watch as each of them get sold off into slavery. This appealed to the parents who made up most of the audience. No one would want to watch their children be taken away for any reason, and the realization that it was inevitable for…

She says “Jesus, you ought to not shoot a lady. I’ll give you all the money I’ve got!” which reveals just how insincere she is, rather than a righteous Christian. In that part of the text, she sees that religion isn’t going to save her life, so instead she goes to lure the Misfit by soppy bribery. If she did not constantly pester the Misfit by saying “I know you’re a good man,” maybe her life would have not concluded with an aggressive murder scene. Her own flawed delusion of the lady statement within the quote lays the outline for judgment of the Misfit that subsequently leads to her death. (O’Connor…

She might have wanted to embarrass the man by pointing out that even a woman like her, African American slaves, could succeed without men helping her. Also, by using her personal experiences, she made the listeners feels as if their connection with her was strengthened. In her next argument, she starts to make the points less specific as she discusses intellect. She does not use the actual word, but instead uses a rhetorical question to lead the audience to believe they came to that subject more on their own merit than just something she is telling them, which makes her speech more effective in broadening the people’s views in the long run. Her third argument is probably the strongest and weakest one at the same time. Today, I believe it would be a very weak argument, but back then it was quite clever. In this point, she uses biblical references, which was very smart as, at the time, most of her audience was Christian. Christianity generally is based around a person’s personal journey with Jesus Christ, and by using this, she continued to connect with her…

Another proud moment for the narrator was when she spoke about being the only woman, in a village of 170 attractive women, that was thought to be pretty enough to be taken back to the domain lords attention. As stated on page 598,”When I got there, the old retainer thought I was even better than the woman in the painting, so the search was called off.” She continues to emphasize her abilities regarding lovemaking with the monk on page 601, the man she wrote letters for on page 605, and finally the 500 disciples on page 610.…

The figurative language in this verse represents a 3 1/2 year time frame. We are told in verse 17 of that same chapter that Satan is furious, because he is unable to attack these people. So, He goes and makes war with the rest of her offspring, who keep the commandments, and have the testimony of Jesus. Prophetically, the woman represents the raptured church that is being protected under the huppah of heaven, while those on the Earth are going through the Tribulation. The 3 1/2 year time frame marks the middle of the Tribulation period when the antichrist will break the false peace that he made with Israel, and he will demand to be worshiped. The situation on Earth will be terrible and unimaginable at this time for those who made late decisions, and missed the boat, so to…

One evening Jesus was eating with twelve of his disciples. While they were eating he told them that one of them would betray him. Not one disciple would believe him. Jesus told Peter that one day he would deny him. Jesus said" before the rooster crows twice you yourself will disown me three times. Peter denied and said that even if he had to die he would never disown him. Jesus and his disciples went to a place called Gethsemane. He told them to sit here and keep watch while he prayed. Then he returned to his disciples and found them sleeping. He awakened them and went away once more, to pray. When he came back, they were asleep again. He returned the third time and found them sleeping again. He said to them that his betrayer is coming. Just when Jesus was speaking, Judas one of the twelve, appeared with a crowd of soldiers. They all condemned him to death. They began to hit him with their fists and began to spit at them. While peter was below in the courtyard, one of the servants looked closely at him. She noticed him as one of Jesus' disciples. Peter denied it three times.…

We see it with the two verbs: being drunk with wine which leads to debauchery, but being filled with the Spirit, which leads to joy in fellowship and obedience to the commandments of the Lord’s will (Hoehner, 702). Just like those who become drunk with wine, those who are filled with the Spirit can no longer control their actions. Those who have the spirit give up their own will to the Lord. Those who walk and are filled with the Spirit, then the Spirit of God is directed and empowers the believer to live their life in a way that is pleasing to God and also to his will. “Believers are commanded to be filled by the Spirit so that they will understand the will of the Lord and allow God’s control of their lives, thus providing enablement to make the most of every opportunity rather than succumbing to the desires of the flesh” (Hoehner, 705). Believers should not only walk wisely, but be filled with the Spirit. All of these are very beneficial to the believers and are pleasing to…
