What Is The Cause Of Valentine's Day Massacre?
On February 14, 1929 at 2122 North Clark Street seven members of George “Bugs” Moran's gang were shot down by four members of Al Capones gang. Bugs managed to escape Capone's special “Valentines Day surprise”. This marked the beginning of an era where Capone was not messed with anymore (“Blood, Roses, and Valentines”, 2008). This is why St.Valentines Day Massacre is such a big event.
The events that led up to this moment was nothing short of eventful. Dean O’Banion and Bugs Moran were the leaders of the North side and wanted Capone dead. On January 12, 1925 an assassination attempt was made on Capone by the North Siders. It was a drive by shooting, but Capone had seen so many that he recognized it and was able to escape with his life. On January

On that fateful Valentines day, four of Capone's men shot down seven of Bugs gang. The plan was brilliant, Jack “Machine Gun” McGurn located Bugs headquarters behind the offices of S.M.C Cartage Company at 2122 North Clark Street(Rosenberg, 2015). McGurn hired gunmen who were not from Capone's gang and outside of Chicago so they could not be recognized. The most essential part of this plan was the clever ruse, two stolen police officer uniforms and a stolen police car. To get Bugs into the garage was easy. A local booze dealer contacted Bugs on February 13 and told him that he had high quality liquor for a decent price. Bugs hastily accepted the offer. Now that everything was set in place, it was time to strike. Around 10:30 A.M Capone's gunman were in place and were looking for Bugs. When they thought they saw a man that looked like Bugs, they sprung into action. The four gunmen searched the garage in the police car and found seven of Bug’s gang. The two men dressed as police officers ordered them to line up facing the wall, and they complied. This was a normal part of life for gangsters so they found nothing suspicious. The men removed their weapons and Bugs gang was unarmed. Once all of the gang was unarmed and against the wall, Capone's men opened fire with two Tommy guns, a sawed off shotgun, and a .45 acp pistol. When they left …show more content…
On May 18, 1929 Al Capone was put in jail for the first time ever. He had been carrying a concealed deadly weapon without a permit. His sentence ended on March 17, 1930 but this was just the beginning of his end. On October 18, 1931 Capone was convicted of federal tax evasion. This was because all of his illegal income had to be claimed on his taxes, which he did not do. He pled guilty to the tax evasion charges. On November 24, he was sentenced to eleven years in federal prison, was fined $50,000 and had to pay $7,692 in court costs, in addition to the $215,000 plus interest in taxes that he owed to the government. On August 11, 1934 Capone is rumored to be one of the first prisoners to arrive at Alcatraz Prison. This is where he will remain for five more years until he went on parole. When he returned home on November 16, 1939 Capone was in very bad health. He was no longer able to run the gang, had lost weight, and his mental health had deteriorated because of his neurosyphilis (Al Capone, n.d). On January 25, 1947 Al Capone died from cardiac arrest. Not many people were at his funeral, it was a cold day and just his family and some of his closest friends attended

His name is Hedey Lamar, but everyone refers to him as Hedley, which infuriates him. Typically, villains are not made fun of, or crossed. Hedey employs a huge army of bandits ranging from cowboys, to Germans, to Middle Eastern terrorists. A parody since many of the bandits would not be able to come to the United States in the 1800's. Furthermore, the lack of intelligence of the bandits is over-exaggerated. An example illustrating their low intelligence is when Bart, the sheriff, places a dime toll- booth in the middle of the prairie, hoping to slow them. When the army gallops to it on their way to destroy Rock Ridge, they stop and exclaim, "Somebody's gotta go back and get a sh*t load of dimes!" No person, in an actual western, would stop; they would simply ride around the building and carry on with business. Another example is, when the strongest thug, Mongo, comes into town, a bomb, made to look like a "candy-gram" is the only thing that can stop him. Just before the bomb explodes Mongo cheers, "Mongo like candy!" The "candy-gram" and the quote imply that Mongo…

Valentines Day Massacre on February 14, 1929 was a big turning point for Al Capone’s in his career in the Mafia. Capone’s rival gang “The North Siders” were tricked into coming to a garage just outside of Chicago in order to obtain some alcohol (which was illegal at the time). After they arrived at the garage, Jack McGurn (A friend of Al Capone) and his gang arrived dressed as policemen and told The North Siders to line up against the wall, before opening machine gun fire, killing all seven men. Capone was in Florida at the time, but local witnesses and police knew that Capone had staged the massacre. After the incident United States President Herbert Hoover stated that he wanted Capone in jail immediately and that he wanted Capone’s slaughter fest to end. Later that month, Capone attended a “gangster” conference in Atlanta. On his trip back he was nabbed in a Philadelphia local movie theatre for carrying a concealed weapon. Capone was imprisoned in 1929 for the offence but released a year later for good behaviour. After he was released several FBI agents posed as gangsters and went undercover to try and infiltrate Capone’s organization. Capone was caught with brewing equipment worth millions of dollars and went on trial March 13, 1931 for 22 counts of tax evasion totaling $200,000. He was later found guilty and was sentenced to 11 years in prison and fined $50,000. Capone was eventually moved from a small Atlanta jail to the world famous Alcatraz in San Francisco.…

Frank Nitty was killed by falling from the top of the courthouse, or was he. The film shows Elliot Ness pushing Nitty off the roof of the courthouse but that is totally twisting the truth. Frank was also shown trying to kill members of the untouchables this was also completely false. Frank Nitty was the second in command in Capone’s empire, so he would not even risk being prosecuted for murders. He also did not fall to his death from the courtroom; once Capone was convicted he took over the empire and ran the organization whilst Capone was in jail. This just proves that the movie even though it does show some truth that does not mean that the whole film is based on the true story.…
