Do you text a lot? Do you know someone that texts a lot. Teen's that text a lot are proven to have a better vocabulary than student and teens that don't. When student and teens shorten words this is known as text speak like wyd for what are you doing. Some people believe that texting is harming teen's writing skills and some other people believe that texting is not harming teen's writing skills. Text speak can help students learn how to switch from texting to formal writing.
