Forbidden love Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet
In William Shakespear's Romeo and Juliet, Shakespeare tells the story of Romeo and Juliet who are caught in the middle of a family feud, but still manage to fall in love. This act 1 scene V passage shows Romeo and Juliet's star-crossed love. Through vivid images in the sonnet, Shakespeare reveals their destined first meeting.
Throughout the sonnet, Shakespeare repeats the image of love. In lines 91-98, we see them holding hands, and speaking flirtatiously. This image brings to mind love at first sight, Romeo falls deeply in love with Juliet, showing their first true meeting may foreshadow their love for each other. Act 3 scene 5 is a significant scene of this tragic play. One of the primary reasons for this is that the play is acknowledged to be a romance between two lovers, but in this scene Shakespeare has managed to change that by introducing a love tragedy theme in the scene.     Romeo and Juliet, a tragic play written by one of the most famous English writers, Shakespeare, in 1601, is one filled with many conflicts, even starting from the story's background. "From ancient grudge break to new mutiny" (Act I, Sc. 1). Conflicts, more often than not, end in tragedies. Romeo and Juliet having many conflicts, has also ended in a terrible tragedy, the death of the lovers. "... a pair of star-crossed lovers take their life..." (Act. I, Sc. I). Even before the play has begun, the prologue expresses one of the conflicts, between the two head families of Verona, the Capulets and Montagues. For instance, when Wendla learnt that she was pregnant she sang the song ‘’whispering’’ (81), which was a direct reference to Romeo and Juliet. By referring to this play of youthful passion, Sater clearly wants to emphasize the forbidden love between Wendla and Melchior. A second example of forbidden love in the play is the incest between Martha and her father.     William Shakespeare used the figurative language imagery much to his advantage using it especially throughout this sonnet. “Which mannerly devotion shows in this; / For saints have hands that pilgrims’ hands do touch, / And palm to palm is holy palmers’ kiss” (1.5.98-100), helped display to readers (readers whom understood what this meant, of course) a clear visual picture of the way they were probably getting closer and closer as the conversation progressed. At this moment in the reading, they had barely met and both had already fallen for one another. The way Juliet spoke of Romeo’s hands, was in a way that said to him that she thought of his hands as “pilgrim[s]” those of which were worthy of showing devotion to a saint; as in, Romeo could display affection to her figuratively being the saint, so it painted the picture of them most likely holding hands. A second way that Shakespeare displayed imagery in the sonnet was by having Romeo state, “Then move not while my prayer’s effect I take” (1.5.106).
