What Is Maverick's Role In Top-Gun Training

In this move, Maverick is portrayed as brilliant, albeit imprudent and high risk taking, ambitious fighter pilot, who is, nevertheless, recruited into Top Gun Training because of high competencies and excellent material for future combat leadership. He displays great aplomb and courage when, despite contrary orders from his training instructor, he saves the life of compatriot and fellow fighter pilot, Cougar, who almost loses his life when he had to fly low on fuel and risk a risky crash landing into the sea. Undeterred, Maverick guides him to safety but Cougar is shaken by this incident and leaves the job, unable to bear the stress, trauma and rigors of fighter pilot’s on-the-job
