I will agree with you that ISIS is not a direct or “existential threat” to the U.S. As many of today’s pundits (political figures and media) portray ISIS to be an “existential threat” they are doing it to push their own agenda such as to advance their organizations position, funding or to get those beloved ratings. The word existential refers to the existence of something living, in this case the U.S. population.
