What Is History Purposeful?
During the chapter fate, sophie gets three questions from the philosopher, the chapter attempts to assume them by saying everything in life is predetermined, then it talks about how a doctor and a philosopher began looking for naturalistic explanations for events that occurred in life,

I think this quote was put in this chapter because all three of those religions are the same, they prey to the same god. To me this quote means if you can't learn from the past your doomed to be stuck in it. He who is living by hand to mouth isn't getting up and living a new future, he's living the same thing over and over (hand to mouth).

    What is Freedom? If you were to ask a freedmen or freedwoman during the age of Reconstruction in 1865, the answer would be land, stability, religious liberty and education. Many claimed membership in the Catholic Church, but only went to church for their own personal reasons, this did not help that the American Protestants who poured into the territory. The people in Louisiana also expressed dissatisfaction with jury service, voting, and other democratic civil duties, which they saw initially as impositions rather than privileges. Without Claiborne guidance I think Louisiana would still be facing some hardship, citizen won't have the advantages they have now. History may or may not would have repeat it self, because of the lost they would have face there wouldn't have been any changes for the government etc.…
