What Is Chewing Gum Essay
Chewing gum has been a part of my daily schedule for the past 5 years. So, researching this item has shed some light on what I really have been chewing. Whether it was for refreshing my breath or just to take away a craving it has become a necessity for my day. What could be wrong with a five calorie snack that i've been chewing for a majority of my life. I was astonished with the ingredients found used to make the gum. Although I didn’t recognize any of the ingredients it still sparked my interest, and forced me to research the ingredients. The first ingredient the caught my eye was Sorbitol. Sorbitol is a low calorie sweetener in medical solutions. Its properties also allow it to be used as a laxative. It drains water into the colon from the rest of the body to relieve constipation. Another use is to hydrate the mouth if the mouth is dry. In contrast to its benefits Sorbitol has some negative side effects including, ere stomach cramps;vomiting;severe diarrhea;rectal bleeding;black, bloody, or tarry stools;weakness, dizziness; or.frequent urge to have a bowel movement. …show more content…
