What I Learned In English Class

As I began this course it was the one I was dreading the most. For as long as I remember I have been told my writing is terrible. As I began this course I realized it was not that I was bad at writing, it was the fact that I did not know correct mechanics or grammar and did not take it serious enough. I have learned so many new techniques and have improved as a writer. Although I will not say I love writing, I do not hate it. Within this class my best effort was for the personal narrative. I say this because it was about my best friend. This meant that not only would the professor be reading it, but I would be sending it to one of the most important people in my life, my best friend. I put more effort into that assignment because it mattered more to me and because it took a lot more effort to write an essay that defines me because I am the type of person who keeps her feelings to herself, instead of expressing them. I really had to dig deep to find my topic and write about it. The assignment I did not succeed in was probably the research paper. I understand that we picked our topic for this one as well, but I loathe research papers. I hope I did well, but I do not know yet. I did not put as much effort as I could have because life came in and distracted me. As problems began to flood in from back home my focus began to stray. I did have fun researching the topic, but I did not put in the time to make it …show more content…
This allows me to believe I deserve an A, because I am always in class, I participate more often than most of our class, I worked hard on my papers, and I made my best effort to fulfill the course requirements. This course has been a blast. I have enjoyed learning the writing techniques and bettering my writing. Thank you, Professor Petrillo for making sure each student understood all the techniques and for giving us the tools to turn in outstanding

Writing was extremely difficult for me when I was younger, mainly because the great ideas I had in my head would not sound so great when I wrote them down on paper. It would sound so perfect to me, yet didn’t make any sense to someone else. Also, I dislike writing for the simple fact that there are a lot of rules to it. Throughout my high school years, I was a poor writer, and it came to my attention in my English 1101 class last year. I failed it the first time, because of not knowing how to get…

realize that I wasn’t as good of a writer that I thought I was. Throughout the semester, my papers gradually improved in grades, but also in quality. Prior to this semester, I was unaware that visualization was even a thing, and thought that showing not telling was for frivolous floosies who didn’t know how to write anything meaningful. This class has changed my perspective on the importance of imagery and creating a better experience for the reader. The first paper I wrote for this class was the Name…

I technically “finished” high school and now I’m taking a vocational nursing class. In my practical nursing class, I’ve learned many skills and techniques, but not only to use in the clinical setting, but in my daily life. As a matter of fact, I believe I learned more about myself while in this class than I learned in my whole life. For instance, I learned that I am a huge procrastinator. This class has taught me how to prioritize and problem solve. For example, I know I have a huge test coming up…

I have learned a lot in these last nine weeks. I now know more about computers then thought I would ever know. I learned that I need to have a password on my wireless rougher. Without a password anyone can peek into my computer and take any information they want. I also learned how a computer system works, and what's the different between data and information to a computer, and how it processes data into information. One thing I didn’t know is all the different kinds of kinds of operating systems…

Spending the last few months in this English class, I’ve realized that this was a very differently structured class than any other class that I have already previously taken. This class pushed me to step out of my comfort zone with writing, striving me to be better every day of class. From reviewing and reading my day one essay I’ve truly realized I have come a long ways away from my first day here in class, and that I have even longer ways to go getting better. I see the improvements I’ve accomplished…

Taking English wasn’t fun back in high school, but several years later when faced with writing my first essay in college it has been an experience. Whereas all writers have their own individuality, learning basic English rules will help your writing skills, given that I am a better writer for taking English 101. This class has impacted my writing skills by teaching me new skills on pre-writing and first drafts. My biggest issue with writing comes from not being a strong reader. I miss important…

and live from. I have learned many skills throughout this course and I am ready for 101! English 90 did not only refresh me of things I learned in high school but it has refined them. Using correct punctuation was an unclear problem I never could get a grasp on until English 90. Difficult tasks such as starting and ending my essays are a thing of the past. Now I know to brainstorm ideas and narrow them to a specific topic. Essays used to take me a plethora of hours to complete and now I know how to…

I now feel after being a student in this class that being successful in business or school requires the ability to organize, arrange, and compose thoughts into a comprehensible format. Without these skills it is impossible to convey thoughts and emotions grammatically. Reflecting on the past eight months, I notice that our English class has taught me skills necessary to develop personal, informative, and persuasive essays. These are essential attributes needed to become successful in today?s society…
