What I Learned In College
I believe having the FYI class before starting other classes was a helpful tool in determining my college success. There are many reasons why it was helpful, but I am only going to analyze four in this document. One of the main reasons contributing to its success was adjusting waking waking up earlier. This may not have been something we directly learned in class, but it proved to be very helpful for the next week. Another reason why this course was successful was it enhanced my note taking abilities. I have never considered myself a bad note taker, in fact, I believe I excel in note taking which is beneficial to me. I feel like this course gave me some extra tips and tricks in order to make make note taking more useful and effective. …show more content…
I thought this is what you do in order to prepare for a test: take a bunch of useless notes, cram every single one into your brain, take the test, forget and repeat. Now I have it is so much easier than that. Now, I go through my textbook, highlight all important terms and facts and skim over those every few days. This makes exams and tests so much less painful and the information sticks around way longer.
The final way I have benefitted from this class is through information about extracurricular activities. I have learned about so many awesome things to do outside of the classroom. A few of these activities include the outdoor program and clubs to join. There seems to be a club for just about anything. The outdoor program is really interesting because you can do various outdoor activities for a fraction of the cost it would cost elsewhere.
All in all I believe this class to be very educational and a critical step a high school senior must take before entering into college. It prepares the individual in many academic and nonacademic ways. This class proved very useful for me, I met some new friends before classes started, learned about the ways I can improve my academics, and how to be involved many activities outside of the

    * Some techniques I use to remember what I study are to re-read things so that it can imprint into my memory. I also tend to look up key points to get a better understanding of what I am studying. I think that two techniques that could help me are to get organized, and to reduce stressors in my life. By organizing my work, it is easier to review what I have studied, as well as making time management easier. By cutting out stressors, I won’t be focused on trivial things, and can concentrate more on the work…

This course has given me a more humanistic view of fellow human beings. This is not to say that I did not before have compassion for other human’s beings; rather to say that my understanding of people and what they may be experiencing within their lives has changed some. We judge people everyday based on things such as appearance, speech and the like. If we look at things with a bit more empathy we can truly say that we can or have walked a mile in someone else's shoes. Many times sympathy takes control when really empathy should take hold. Personally, I implement new learning's into my everyday life. I learned to not be so quick to make a hasty decision and that actually hearing someone is different from just listening to them. Carl Rogers said this and I believe it has deep bearings within this course; "An assumption unusual in psychology today is that the subjective human being has an important value which is…

I really enjoyed participating and learning about America’s dynamic political policies. This class was very useful and I have used the social, cultural, political, governmental and economic prism method to dissect numerous policy topics for other classes. The format encouraged class discussion and it was engaging to hear what other students thought on hot topic issues. I also believe this course taught me how to have more meaningful political conversations by learning how to refrain from personal political ideology and rhetoric.…

The three most significant things that I learned in this course is one how often we use critical thinking on a daily basis. The second thing this class taught me is the different stages of thinking which I figured out I was practicing thinker which I learned that was I went over the problems instead of jumping right into the problem. The final thing I learned was about fallacies which is something is not as it seems for example, if a commercial says they have tires for $40 and when you get there they say they are sold out already that is just a scheme to get you into the store.…

By using this I have discovered what my goals and dreams are. I wanted to pass this class and go on to college but that's not going to happen if I fail english. I realized that all that busy work she was giving us wasn't actually busy work. She showing us how hard it can be in college and most of the material now that I come to think of it helped me with everything I did in that class whether it was vocab or learning to write a better thesis statement. My goal for that class was to pass with an 80 or high by the end of each marking period and to not slack on all my work and to do it well and on time. Now I actually do my work ahead of time so that I don't forget and I have time to go back and look over it and sometimes I have a little free time to myself. My current grade in my CCC English 102 is an 89 and so far i've been doing things days before they are actually do so I make sure it's…

He also gives suggestion about taking notes, which is writing down what you have learned by reading in real sentences. I do not usually record something in writing when I read textbooks or articles because I always try to make sense in my head; however, as the time elapses, memories tend to get vague and become hard to reconstruct in many cases. Therefore, notes are definitely needed as a clue to stimulate your brain and reconstruct exactly what you should know. Summarizing and writing down what you have learned by reading are very helpful to recall your memories and at the same time, it makes your memories more solid since you have already made sense and written in real sentences. Verbalizing your thoughts is also one of the tips that he suggests and helps you to remember your thoughts on the topic. Speaking your thoughts or what you have learned after documenting them in real sentences is an effective way to repeat them and fixedly memorizes the knowledge as well. As he says, the most important thing in learning is to make sense and remember. These means will certainly help me to improve the study habit and enrich the learning.…

Things that I have learned so far about high school is that the more you will realize who your friends are they will really start showing you their “true colors”. Furthermore balancing the workload is a very hard task because you have extra curriculum and other responsibilities dealing with your household. Being in high school you aren't going to get pampered or a teacher constantly coming to you, tell you that you have work due , missing assignments , being in class on time and keeping up with your grades . Also , I have learned that you shouldn't wait unit the last minute to turn work in or ask for extra credit , most certainty you shouldn't wait until the day before the due date to turn in your assignments . By having other classes that will be due…

This class has allowed me to further my writing and reasoning skills due to its philosophical tendencies. Over the entirety of my academic career I have achieved a great number of skills which I am proud of. In my elementary school years I was one of the youngest to achieve a college level of reading comprehension and as such have had little trouble in understanding assignments and completing them swiftly, often resulting in me aiding fellow students to grasp the concept. Having said that there have been times where I overlooked a detail and as such I then sought help only to discover it was something small I had missed. This aperient rise and fall has humbled me and allowed me to never belittle or look down on someone for not understanding something.…

Before learning the methods from the computer tutorial, I was confused about certain test. Before, I would just go over my notes and past homework that I have done. Now I know to review old test. I used to stop on answers that I could not figure out and spend a lot of time just being frustrated. Now I know to skip those questions and move onto the next one and come back to them once my test is completed. I used to read some out of the textbook on the chapters covered on the test, but I found that I would study a lot of information not relevant to the test. Now I know to take a look at other test and see what kinds of questions were asked and see how I can apply the mistakes I made before to the test that I am about to…
