What Happens Next Caitlyn Smith

I woke up early one day. The cave was dark and I could not see. I went outside to see if I could find mother, but she was nowhere to be found; I guess she went off somewhere without telling me. I’m looking around after just waking up and I see this creature. I don’t know what to do. He comes closer, what am I supposed to do? I saw him running towards me and I started getting scared. He grabbed a stick and threw it towards me as if to warn me that he was going to hurt me. What should I do? Do I kill him? The answer never came clear to me; I just did what I felt I had to do. I grabbed the creature and began choking him. His face turned blue and he fell to the ground, lifeless. I took a deep breath and told myself that I did what I had to do to save myself. I looked up and saw something I never imaged. Many creatures stood before me, all looking quite shocked at what had just happened. I thought to myself in shock at what was about to happen. The creatures stared at me and then it all just happened. I ran towards the creatures and did my best to scare them. I started yelling and screaming; waving my arms. I began grabbing each creature just like I had done the first, right around the neck with my hands until they were turning blue and breathless, once I knew they were dead, I threw them on the ground and moved onto the next creature. It took a while, but I finally got through every single one of them. I took a deep breath knowing that I had accomplished a lot in such a small amount of time. I looked up by my cave and saw a very large and scary looking man. He was strong, you could tell just by looking at him. He looked at me in horror asking me what was wrong with me. I just told him I was trying to defend myself. “You killed my creatures” was all he said to me. He came over and began to fight. I was scared, but I thought I could take him. I struggled and finally fell in defeat, Beowulf, the strong and mighty had

As I observed his ghastly shadow I saw that he was over 8 feet tall. He had huge claws so each on looked like a dagger itself, ripping and tearing at the flesh of my fellow companions. He had long horns that curled inwards like a rams horns. He had a long, scaly like tail that swung and whipped in the air followed by a flop on the ground in a joyless motion, as if it too, like the monster, was thrilled to taste the succulent human blood flowing over the tongue and trickling down the throat.…

Beowulf even defeated a dragon in his old age now that portrays power. Finally, Sir Gawain from Sir Gawain and the green knight. This depicts a knight who took a challenge that at face value, seemed like an easy win but, when the impossible became possible he did not waver. This quote that can be used to explain the courage it took for him to win at his challenge,” Sir Gawain laid hold is axe and lifted it high into the air…and then swiftly he slashed the naked neck.”(Pearl poet 161).To be able to do that without any hesitation requires intense courage sure what happened after that separates the men from the Hero’s. The person who had his head liberated from his shoulders got up picked up his head and walked up to do the same to Sir Gawain but he did not blink and through his courage his finished the challenge triumphant. A 48-year-old Carnegie hero once said, while rescuing a woman from drowning in the Pacific Ocean, “‘I’m going to get her out of here. One way or another… I’m going to do it.’” This is just a simple statement of a man’s heroic determination that saved the life of a woman in the Pacific Ocean. Although saving a life, such as this Carnegie hero did, is a perfect example of how determination did good, less severe situations also happen and end with positive outcomes. Often determination is easily seen as competition and not a necessary need of doing something. Differing from the Carnegie heroes event, Beowulf expresses his determination to defeat Grendel, the monstrous creature of the poem, by explaining to Unferth, a warrior, that Grendel does not fear him and continues by saying, “I will show him how Geats shape to kill / in the heat of battle (41).” Without a doubt, these words are powerful and point directly to Beowulf’s determination to do good for those affected by Grendel’s past attacks. The boast Beowulf gives becomes a reality and proves his determination to defeat Grendel to be true. Beowulf’s determination to defeat Grendel amazingly becomes a new scenario for Beowulf’s determination when he fights Grendel’s mother to retrieves Grendel’s head. The narrator expresses Beowulf’s cause for determination as revenge by…

My last words to him was “WHO DID THIS TO YOU ? WHO IS TAKING YOU AWAY FROM ME?!” I couldn’t stop replaying his response in my head “B-Beowulf... The Son Of Ecgtheow” I swear at that moment I’ve never cried so much, Grendel was my only child and he meant the world to me. I sat there in the cave holding Grendel he kept screaming and hollering, I hate hearing hollering, so I started plotting on the man called Beowulf. I thought of a million and one ways to kill him but I didn’t think anyone of them compared to what he had did to my son. When I got myself together I left my cave and…

I hear my son calling out for me, wishing I was there to help. I feel the broken bones and the screams that my child, my sweet baby boy, made while Beowulf tore him from this world. I could hear the blood pumping in my ears, away from the situation, and I started calming my breathing. I headed back to camp, content with trying to forget what I heard. The heavy footsteps of a creature larger than simple game. Almost as though just hiding from me, either to prepare to pounce, or to hide. What bothered me most however, was not that it was seemingly a creature who just wanted to hide, but that it hid. It sounded like a large creature, but a deer would have run, and a wolf would attack, followed by others. What was that? As I reached the campsite, the flames of my fire were softly dancing as though doing a waltz. I checked all of camp, but all the food and supplies I had gathered were gone. I headed back into the woods to the spot where I heard the rustle of leaves. The forest was still unsettlingly still, so I made the point to make my presence be known. I searched for any signs of where my belongings could have ended up. I stumbled upon a skinned deer. With that I knew I was not alone. I searched further, and found the hide on the ground near the river. I lifted it, wondering why any creature would skin a deer just to leave the hide behind not too far…
