Shoemaker’s class I had recess. Since my friends and I usually didn’t get down to the gym fast enough, we didn’t always get a ball to mess around with. So we instead decided to stay in her class during that time. We had loads of fun creating memories upon memories that will never be forgotten. Memories like when we put on impaired driving goggles and stumbled over everything. Memories of us eating all her yummy peanut butter filled pretzels and asking for help on assignments. I had grammar with a different teacher but if I did not understand something, I would ask Mrs. Shoemaker. She would always explain the homework to me. Also, if I had to write an essay she would help me and then look over it for mistakes. Making me a stronger person today, Mrs. Shoemaker never let me give…

Looking back on my education, there are plenty of teachers that I felt were effective in getting me to learn material, but I will mention just two. Teacher A was my 8th grade and 10th grade math teacher. He didn’t necessarily make math easier in any way, but he made math much more fun because you looked forward to going to his class. Teacher A always used simple jokes, often requiring a very dry humor, which made me constantly pay attention in class so I could catch his different jokes. He also had the ability to demand respect in his class without ever really enforcing anything. He was simply such an amazing teacher that everyone respected his class and no one ever acted up. Teacher B, my 8th grade science teacher, also had a big impact on my education for the better. I enjoyed going to her classes because she was able to connect with me and a few of my friends on more of a personal level. She took an interest in our lives and made sure we were all on the path toward better futures. She, unlike Teacher A, demanded respect in her classroom in more of an authoritative way. Her students knew that if they acted up, she would not skip a beat to send them to the office, resulting in very few problems.…

One name in particular stands firm among others and that is Mr. Jesse L. Barrett. Mr. Barrett was my English II Honors teacher my sophomore year in high school. Sadly, he was only my English teacher for one year. I honestly could not have asked for a better teacher. At the same time as making me smile and laugh, he ultimately helped me to be successful in life. Initially, I did not enjoy English as much anymore due to a bad string of teachers who lectured endlessly on random topics other than English. He changed my outlook on life and helped me regain my passion for English. Mr. Barrett motivated me to not settle for mediocre work and to do my absolute best in anything I strived for. I never imagined that I would encounter a teacher that was as meticulous as Mr. Barrett. Everything he did had a specific place and order. He never accepted late work because we were in an honors class that required you to be punctual. This taught me how to be prompt, a skill that will help when I attend college next fall.…

I remember coming to Healy and not knowing a thing about Kansas, other than it was the flattest state I had ever been in, and that it would be my new home for the next two years. Mr. Clay was the first teacher I met when I moved here, and is one of the people that changed my future more than any teacher had before. Not only was his class one of my favorites, but he also introduced me to Pittsburg State University. The school that I will be attending in the fall. I am thankful for him because otherwise I would not know where to go that would be a good fit for me. Another one of my teachers that I would like to thank is Ms. Wells, she was there for me during the senior trip, and is one of the only remaining teachers. I never would have had the opportunity to bond with teachers the way that I have in this school, another teacher that I appreciate so much is Mrs. Clay, she was also my quiz bowl coach, and has been one of the most influential people in my high school career. She has been there through the entire college process, including numerous scholarship applications, FAFSA, and work study applications. I would say that she is the only reason that I am as far as I am this year, and that I have not had a mental breakdown. The last teacher that needs way more appreciation than I could ever give is Mr. Brooks. Not only has he done so much for the school, but he also makes my day so much…

Mrs. Trahan was an absolute gem, and I am glad I had her as a teacher. She was very fast paced, which made things difficult for everyone. Students always complained about her teaching styles, but I really loved her. I learned so much in her class, even though I did not have long to learn the material. Teachers always defended her when students were complaining, but that is because most students do not understand that through the trouble of her class, they were actually learning.…
