What Does The Evidence Reveal About The Death Of Otzi The Iceman?

Advances in technology and scientific method over the last 25 years have provided new evidence which disproves the original theory that Otzi, the iceman, may have fallen, injured himself and died from hyperthermia. High resolution CT scanning as well as new scientific techniques which allow for the analysis of blood, tissue and DNA have resulted in entirely different evidence-based theories. Evidence now suggests that Otzi died violently when an arrowhead severed the subclavian artery in his left shoulder. Moreover, other evidence exists to support the theory that a blow with a heavy object to the back of his skull serious bleeding and damage to brain tissue. Furthermore, an

Moreover pollen in his body provided evidence that he had travelled from the valley to the mountain where he died within 24 hours of his death. In this paper I will examine all of the evidence from a number of sources to establish the circumstances surrounding the death of Otzi the iceman.

Many scientists now agree that the primary cause of death was a tear in the subclavian artery which is a major artery carrying blood from Otzi’s heart to his left arm. The tear was caused by an arrowhead lodged in Otzi’s left shoulder and corresponded with a cut in his coat. It is estimated that the arrow was fired from below. The wound resulted in severe bleeding which within two minutes caused a severe heart attack and death. A CT scan performed in 2005 first revealed the wound. Source A, Dr Thomas Bonfert, a radiologist and anthropologist, confirmed this and said that in addition severe damage to a major nerve

The killer/killers yanked out the arrow to cover their tracks. For similar reasons the killer/killers did not take any of Otzi’s possessions, including the valuable and distinctive copper-bladed axe the appearance of such a remarkable object in the possession of a villager would automatically implicate its owner. Source H, Gary Rodgers, a retired homicide detective and coroner says that the position in which Otzi was found with his arms outstretched in a hyperextended position was unnatural and thinks that someone placed the body in this position after death Additionally Gary Rodgers also mentions the fact that the body was in excellent condition and had not been damaged by predators, scavengers, or insects. This means that it had been covered with snow soon after death. He believes that this may have been done in an attempt to conceal the body. Furthermore, Gary Rodgers believes that thirty different pollens in Otzi’s body from the food and water he consumed as well as the air he breathed prove that he had travelled from the valley floor to the top of the pass where he died within a 24 hour period. Evidence suggests that Otzi was fleeing from the killer/killers. Furthermore, the fact that the arrow that killed him was fired from

The evidence with the bodies also had their similarities and differences. They did both have evidence and items with their corpses. But the items and evidence were very different. Otzi was found with weapons and other things that had related to his time. His clothing, weapons and miscellaneous had given us a better understanding of Otzi and his life (e.g. grass cape, bear cap, dung of animals, copper axes) But there was a dilemma about his excavation and evidence, after the news broke out about his discovery tourists took artifacts as souvenirs from the site of his…

The past theories of it being accident I think should also be put to rest. King Tutankhamen had a condition called temporal lobe epilepsy but that was not the cause of his death. Dr. Hutan Ashrafian believed that was to be the cause of his death. From the air of program on PBS which air points from which they used a variety of simulations physical tests including chemical and electronic microscopic tests on actual samples of King Tut’s mummified flesh to verify the theory that King Tut was hit by a chariot traveling at full speed pace. However, I believe that it does not prove to me that he died from that…

Initially scientists thought he had frozen to death in the harsh weather; however, in 2001 an X-ray examination revealed an arrowhead was lodged in Ötzi’s left shoulder, that eventually lead to his demise. One of the four individuals who fought Ötzi pulled the arrow shaft out of his shoulder to avoid suspicion. The position of the arrowhead in his left shoulder, and the spot relative to where he died baffled the scientists. An experienced hunter had to have taken the shot based on elevation…

Like true tragic heroes, these men have a fall from grace. When Oedipus fell, it was less obvious then when Okonkwo fell. Oedipus's fall began once he discovered that he killed his father and took over the thrown. He went into a deep depression and eventually gouged his eyes out. He eventually died of old age, but the end of his life was miserable. Okonkwo's fall was painfully obvious. The beginning of the fall was when he shot at his wife. The end concluded with Okonkwo hanging himself, because he couldn't take the Christianity any more.…
