So in class we just read the play Midsummer night's dream. I thought that the play was very interesting because this play was taken place a long time ago. But in this essay I got the question. What is Shakespeare saying about love?

This play is very confusing there is a lot of things going on at once. Love is a very important part in the play, because it happens with a lot of people. In the play Shakespeare is saying that the man doesn't always have to be a leader in a relationship. For example Helena came to Demetrius telling him about her love for him. Another example is when Hermia's father gave her 3 options marry Demetrius, become a nun or die. For her sake of love she chose to run away with her love Lysander, her true love

    Love, according to Webster’s Dictionary, is “a feeling of strong or constant affection for a person, which is mutual.” In A Midsummer Night’s Dream, by William Shakespeare, there are three couples who are in love, but all under very different circumstances. At the beginning of the play, Egeus forbids his daughter Hermia to marry Lysander, her true love, in favor Demetrius. Puck, a hobgoblin and mischief-maker, puts a spell on Lysander and Demetrius to make them fall in love with Helena. Throughout, the story we see three couples who wed because of external force, not mutual affection which negatively affects the story; one for the sake of peace as is the case of Hippolyta and Theseus, the second between Demetrius and Helena due to a love potion and finally, and a third couple who lives up to the definition of love, Hermia and Lysander.…

    William Shakespeare presents love in many complex ways in the first three scenes of A Midsummer’s Night’s Dream. The first three scenes introduce us to eight lovers. A part of the comic plot comes from a father, Egeus, attempting to thwart his daughter’s and Lysander’s relationship. Egeus threatens his daughter with life in a Nunnery if she refuses to marry his chosen suitor Demetrius. He does not paint a picture of this being a happy life, referring to it as “barren”, “cold” and “fruitless”.     Helena loves Demetrius but he is in love with Hermia but Hermia is in love with Lysander. Oberon tells Puck, his servant, to create a love potion and squeeze it into Demetrius’ eyes so he stops being rude to Helena and falls madly in love with her. Puck instead sprinkles love potion in Lysander and Robin sprinkled it in Demetrius’ eyes while resting and when they awoke they both saw Helena and fell in love with her. This fiasco causes a misunderstanding between Helena and Hermia. Helena believes that both Demetrius and Lysander and Hermia are playing a cruel trick on her and Hermia swears Helena as stolen her beloved Lysander from her. When the audience knows more about the other characters than they do is what makes this play a comedic one and after Hermia tried to attack Helena made the reader have an urge to keep reading and intrigued because it can relate to everyday life.     One love that Shakespeare shows in Midsummer is passion. Passion is a burning emotion, a strong feeling or a desire that is deep within your soul. When you have found the perfect man/ women you will be passionately in love. The lovers that show this in the play are Lysander and Hermia. The two of them really define the passion and true love. Lysander and Hermia are determined to be with each other, but are denial by Egeus (Hermia’s father). Egeus wants Hermia to marry Demetrius, but she is in love with Lysander. Egeus and Theseus (The Duke of Athens) then agree that if Hermia does not marry Demetrius she is either to become a nun or die. In this quote she is telling Lysander that because of all this commotion, her eyes are starting to fill with water and about to cry.
