What Does Paul Symbolize In Tangerine
The book Tangerine by Edward Bloor is a book overflowing with symbolism. I can’t list even half of them. My favorite symbolism moment is when Paul is shopping for new clothes and he sees and says lots of symbolism. Well first of all, symbolism is when you use symbols to represent qualities or ideas. What happened in Tangerine that was symbolic was, Paul was shopping with his mom for new clothes and a new uniform for St. Joseph's (Paul’s new private school), while he was there his mom bought everything from socks to everything he ever wanted. When he got home tags and plastic and tags went flying. He kept talking about what he was getting like he was getting a fresh start on the world, in a new school, as if his old clothes were that past

In the book, Lord of the Flies, the author frequently uses symbolism. Symbolism-n 1: the art or practice of using symbols esp. by investing things with a symbolic meaning or by expressing the invisible or intangible by means of visible or sensuous representations. In other words, discussing or explaining a broader, more general topic by linking it symbolically with a specific event in a literary work. The superb use of symbolism in the book is one of the contributing factors to the profoundness of Lord of the Flies. This book is peppered with examples of symbolism, but the ones that stand out the most are: The breaking of Piggy's spectacles, the representation of the littluns and Jack as the "people" and the government, and Simon's conversation…

In Tangerine, by Edward Bloor, readers meet a middle school soccer player who embraces life with humor and resiliency, but also fear. Paul Fisher lives in the shadow of his older brother, and that shadow is ominous (threatening). Through a few of life's crazy twists of fate, Paul comes out injured, but not beaten. Because of Paul’s ability to stay positive and connected to people, no matter what race or social standing, he is able to navigate through life with sails billowing. Paul would be an extremely unhappy person if he didn’t have a clear sense of humor, a sense of respect for all people, and resiliency.…

It represents his desire to see himself differently in his own reality and in his dream world. He wants to be strong yet confident but always in control. In his own reality he wears a "scandalous red carnation"(). Paul portrays his disrespectful, overconfidence and rebelliousness to a society with middle-class values, so that he can declare his independence from them. For example he is proud to purchase a new "red robe" while in New York because it enables him to express his boldness in a daring way (254). Another example is when he talks about the "red velvet carpet laid from the door to the street" for him to walk up and down, proclaiming his freedom at the Waldorf Hotel in New York City (256). Red not only offers Paul bravery but also is a frequent memento of his own power of preferences as he prepares for his striking…

I strongly agree with the statement ‘the use of symbolism is the best way to shed light on the darker or deeper messages of a text’. A text that exemplifies the statement is Barbara Kingsolver’s novel ‘The Poisonwood Bible’. Symbolism was used in the text to highlight the darker and deeper messages of the text. ‘The Poisonwood Bible’ is a novel about a missionary family, the Prices, who in 1959 move from the U.S. state of Georgia to the village of Kilanga in the Belgian Congo. Kingsolver’s purpose in the text was to tell a story of destruction, not only of the Price family but also of the Congo.…

One mentioned important and religious symbolism is being immersed in water. Rather it be in a river, a bathtub, a pond, a sewage reservoir, or even a baptism chamber, being immersed in water usually has the purpose of symbolizing a change in a character. This is obviously based off the Christian belief of baptism, but beyond baptism in that sometimes that person becomes a new person. Another rather vulgar use of symbolism is sex.…

Throughout this story it is apparent Paul does not wish to slowly progress into perfection instead, Paul wants to experience instant gratification and while doing so Paul wants to move his way to the top and remain at the top. In “Battle Royal” by Ralph Ellison, symbolism is used in many different aspects. All of the different symbolisms are allowing you to think outside of the box about what the story is telling you and how you look at the story. To begin the story the protagonist is asked to come and share a speech with the men of higher society within the town. Once he arrived he would soon realize that the high society men had different plans. Him among other young African Americans were giving boxing gloves and blindfolded. They were told to fight and “everyone fought hysterically” (page 230). This was all for entertainment for the white men of the town, and the young African Americans did as they were told. This is the first example of symbolism because during…
