Bigelow and La Gaipa (1975) observed children’s friendships by asking a number of children to write an essay about their best friend using the approach called “content analysis”. William Corsaro however dictates that in order to study children you must study them in the context of their own peer culture, he used the “ethnographic approach”. In this essay I shall attempt to compare and contrast the approach used by Bigelow and La Gaipa (1975) and that taken by William Corsaro (2006).…
Friendship is founded upon how well individuals interact with and understand each other. Friends not only value similarities, but know to also appreciate differences, Most of all, a good friend is one who genuinely cares about the welfare of his companion, despite all the shortcomings that may come with the…
Friends are those people who surround us with care and love. When life is so dark and all doors are closed, friends are that hope you can stand by. However, friends do not always form that beautiful emotional relationships, some of them rather carry other hidden intentions which are covered by the name of friendship. I believe that friends fall under two main categories which are real friends and friends of special interests.…

True friendship means understanding and knowing how your friend is feeling and what mood they are in by the way they are acting, but no matter how many fights and arguments that you and your friends get into it does not matter because true friendship always prevails.James Miller once said that “A friend is someone who knows you as well or better than you know yourself.”(113). those words could not be any truer. Friendship is something that is forged and made over many years and memories.. For many people they become friends when they are children because they grew up and made memories. Other people make friends in school or while out in the workforce. Although for many teens and children including myself, I made many of my true friends while…
A convenient friendship is not something that anyone can buy, depend on the person all the time, or be getting materialistic materials from that person.Furthermore, my definition of a notable friendship is when two individuals are there for each other no matter what the situation is, and when they apprise us when everyone is amiss.…
What is the definition of a friend? Many people have friends that they can count on for anything what so ever. Others have friends that are there when they need something. What is friendship? Friendship could never be understood by simply reading its definition from any resources. The meaning of friendship will not be gained by anyone until it has been experienced. Friendship is a word we are all familiar with and it has a different meaning to everyone. Some people take friendship seriously, and some people take it lightly, one friend after another. As you go through life, you will meet a variety of people and will build relationships with them. Friends often come and go, but best friends always stay. So, it is very important for you to recognize all the friends you have because true friends are hard to find. In other words, to have true friends, you must be a real friend.…
Former Friends and Friends That You Love to Hate are linked in a way that you can hate them both. The word Friendship has infinite definitions in terms of what people believe it means. To me friendship is a bond formed between two individuals that can possibly last a lifetime, meaning no one can ever separate the two. The history between the two individuals tells the story of how they met, where they met and how the friendship began. There are certain traits needed to keep a friendship strong, and that is honesty. most people today sometimes lie to their friend and this causes the friendship to end. The last thing…

“I’ll be there for you, when the rain starts to pour.”1 These lyrics began each episode of the popular sitcom Friends. The trials and tribulations of these six “20-something” friends captivated the American public for a decade until Ross, Monica, Joey, Phoebe, Chandler, and Rachel eventually transitioned to adulthood at the show’s closure. Perhaps the show’s popularity was due to having some truth in the fiction: (a) friends can be a proxy family for young people, offering invaluable advice, support, and companionship; (b) friends can be of the same or opposite sex, but these two types of friendship work differently; (c) friends may engage in casual sex, but may also become involved romantically; (d) friendships are central to the lives of emerging adults, especially those who are single and not in a serious romantic relationship; and (e) friends help people to figure themselves out and influence their behavior, potentially for both good and bad. As is the case with all TV shows, there is also pure fiction in this sitcom: these six friends lived in the same apartments in the same city and often held down the same job for over a decade. Instead, instability is more the norm among reallife emerging adults. Also, most American young people get married and become parents in their late 20s rather than the 30s (as the sitcom depicted). So while close friendships are critical to emerging adults’ happiness, search for their identities, and true loves, friends become less important once they’ve figured out the big questions of life and “settle down” in marriage, parenthood, and careers. Still, for emerging adults, friends can fill the growing gap between the time when they leave the families they grew…
I’ve been in so many relationships, oops! Not a boyfriend or girlfriend relationship but a friendship. I can easily get along to other people, I’m so very friendly to the point that everyone seems to be my friend. Unfortunately I have this bad attitude that every time I have Barkada’s that seems to last forever, I can ruin my reputation and my attitude change. I’m so attach to them that the love I gave is really something more than friends but a love that is for a sister, maybe because I’m longing for a sister’s love that I can experience to them. My attitude change and they cannot understand and also myself that every time our friendship is going stronger, I am leaving them to the peak. With that attitude, I was left by so many friends that I thought will be last forever. These experiences made me realize that no one can accept my attitude and the way I love. I actually gave up having a friend because I know that they will just again leave and no one can ever understand me.…
According to Garvey, play is a necessity to life. She stated that play was any type of behavior that one can practice without having to think about consequences. She contends that play is simply absorbing various activities and participating with enthusiasm. Play is the building blocks and the most important part of any child’s life. Play at childhood is very important. It plays a key role in a child’s learning processes and their development. Garvey (1977) stated that play was extremely important in childhood because it is a common thing. Children learn knowledge of self, non verbal and verbal communication and they begin to receive an understanding of the physical and social worlds due to play. From an early stage children learn to speak. They then use language to interact with each other socially, this leads to responses which come in a form of emotions then physical play and creative play. These various types of behaviors play a vital role in childhood cognitive development. Within this essay, the importance of play through the forms of social development, emotional development, physical development and creative development will be discussed.…
