What Does Don T Look Back Mean To Me Essay
Life is not fair. Almost everyone thirteen or older knows this by now, but some people do not know how to deal with this fact. Some people listen to music, others workout, and certain people just hold it in and do nothing, while I look towards a certain quote that means alot to me. That quote was first said by Satchel Paige, a professional baseball player in the 1940s, and in the quote he states, “Don’t look back. Something might be gaining on you”. This quote means a lot to me because of the meaning behind it. Essentially the quote says that if someone was to slow down or even turn to look back something could catch up to that person. To the average person this may be just another thing that doesn’t affect their life what so ever, so to understand the quote it has to be thought about in depth first. It is a quotes that combines many common sayings into another saying, and while it …show more content…
For example, if someone have a game then the player can not let up or else the other team or their opponent might catch up, and they could lose. Another example is parents, they always have to be ahead of the game in order to make sure their kids are healthy and well, because if they are not one step ahead their kids can get sick, injured, or even killed. There are many more examples that anyone can think of, but this goes to show how useful this quote actually is. Another reason why this quote means so much to be is because of the experiences it has put me through. One time I was playing soccer and I was about to score a goal because the goalie dove at the ball and missed it, knowing I had an easy goal I slowed down, to this the goaly gave his best effort to make one last attempt to get the ball, and because I slowed down I didn’t score. Later that game I remembered this quote and with one minute left I scored the game winning goal, easily being the best moment of my short soccer

The quote I have chosen is, “Success consists of going from failure to failure without losing enthusiasm”. This is one of Winston Churchill's most well known quotes. This quote was said during his reign as the Prime Minister of Great Britain. It is unknown as to where this quote came from but I found it to be very captivating. I feel like Churchill is trying to get the point across that in life it is normal to not be perfect. Everyone makes mistakes and each failure shapes you as a person. Churchill is saying that if you put your mistakes in the past without changing who you are, it makes you stronger and more successful than someone who fails to do so. Being afraid of failure gets you nowhere in life so Churchill is stating that everyone should strive with great enthusiasm in order to be their best self.…

Steve Prefontaine, a profound runner once said, “To give anything less than your best is to sacrifice the gift.” ‘Pre’ as he was called, died at age 24 in a car crash but his legacy and effect on the running community is truly amazing. I feel like this quote isn't just a simple phrase. I feel like he meant what he said, as do I when I silently think this, not only during races, but in everyday life. If you're going to spend your valuable time doing something, do it to your best. God put you on this Earth and gave you what you have. Don't waste this gift. Get busy and do your best at whatever you put your mind…

Another reason this quote has merit is that it talks about how internalized thoughts can become words and then actions. This is present when the author says, "Watch your thoughts, for they become words." This simple truth is impactful on the reader and can cause reflection on one's own thoughts. This part of the quote also influences positive thinking which will lead to positive behavior. For this reason this quote holds water even today.…

This quote relates bad hops in baseball to obstacles in my life and making great plays to overcoming those obstacles. This brings me to my laws of life which are how to deal with failure, and how to make the best of a bad situation put before you. I will be relating both of these laws to experiences I've had in baseball. I made the realization that failure is healthy and can only make me stronger. Before I made these realizations, whenever I would fail I would get down on myself and lose confidence. I’ve also had to make the best of an unfortunate situation that occurred during the baseball season. These are my laws of life.…

This particular aphorism fits into my life in more ways than one, especially when I am on the hockey rink, as I try to better myself and those around me with new ideas, even though I may be misunderstood at the start. This past summer, each Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday morning, I would skate at 8 in the morning with a bunch of my friends, all in the hopes of getting better for the upcoming high school hockey season. Before every session, my brother Michael and I would go on early and just shoot pucks around before anyone else came on the ice, so we could get some extra practice in. One particular morning, we were shooting pucks and I noticed that if he moved his bottom hand up his stick a little more, and had a more vertical release when shooting the puck, his release would be quicker, making his shot faster and more accurate.…
