Basketball was the extracurricular activity that has most meaningful to me. Basketball was the first sport i every played when i was younger and started to play organized basketball when i was in 7th grade. Being over weigh, tall, and a one handing shoo landed me as starter center. I tried hard not giving up, eventually losing the extra weight and playing all four years at Aerospace. Basketball is the sport that made me, it shaped me into the person i am today. It teaches leadership, responsibility, accountability, respect, perseverance, teamwork, trust, and a lot more. The wins are always great, of course, and the losses are tough. But the part that i like the most is that i learned and improve myself everyday at practice and at a game not

I have been playing basketball basically my whole life, it is has shaped me into the person I am today. I started with just a ball and a hoop in my cousins front yard. I would just chuck the ball at hoop for fun, horsing around with my cousins. In elementary and middle school I would play with my friends at recess shooting around, dribbling in circles for the fun of it. I was even better then most of the boys who would play with my group on the courts. When I entered high school that was when I realized I was truly in love with the game. High school was where it was taken to a whole 'nother level. I was introduced to the real dynamics of the sport, it was where I learned that if I really want to do something that I love I had to put my all into it. I had to prove that I was one-hundred percent committed to the game. Practicing everyday for two hours, and…

I was so interested in playing basketball after watching my brother play, however, I started learning when I was 9 years old. So I kept doing it. I have always love to play basketball. The swish when you make it just right, and the boom of the basketball hitting the floor “are sounds I love”. When I first started playing basketball, my mom and my couch Richard knew that I was expectational. I played with Richard for a few years, then one day he told us about this newspaper ad he saw for a team named “Eugene Fire”. My mom decided to check it out, so she called the coach, Jim. He said I probably won't make the team, but I believed I could. So I would try anyways.…

For as long as I remember, I have been raised with a basketball hoop. This hoop stood firmly, looking down at the trees secured by patches of cement in my backyard, in my neighborhood, Dorchester. This hoop was my center of faith and tranquility surrounded by gunfires, shattering windows, car alarms. As a girl, I learned not to adventure any place else other than this hoop because going beyond its faded lines on the concrete is an unknown world full of hazards and danger. And when I did cross these seraphic lines, I could sense the bittersweet emotions running throughout the neighborhood, my home.…

On the 20th of October, 1998, the world was blessed with a talented basketball player. (That would be me.) Growing up, I didn’t really have reasons to like basketball. My family did not play or have interest in any kind of sport, besides for my father turning on the Lakers game once in a while. So my influence had to come about from a mishap. A mishap I am very thankful for. The television was playing the Lakers game in my living room one night when my attention was caught by an astonishing performance by a player wearing the number 8. Shot after shot he would score with emphasis, scowling after each basket. This player was arguably one of the greatest professional basketball players still to this day, Kobe Bryant. It was at this moment that…

My favorite leisure activity is playing, watching, reading, really anything to do with basketball. Basketball is by far my favorite thing in the world. A basketball court is where I feel most at home, and it is the one place on earth I can be where I know what I’m doing and what I’m talking about. It’s fairly popular in the US (it’s the playoffs right now), and its athletes are extremely polarizing and recognizable, because it’s the one sport where an athlete's face is always exposed, not covered up by a football helmet, baseball cap, or hockey mask. My favorite time and place is anywhere and anytime. I prefer indoors, although it can be played outdoors, and some even prefer it that way. The classic way that people play is often in a driveway at home, but the best is always against someone on a court. I started playing basketball because of my original favorite player, Shaquille O’Neal. He was a huge, unstoppable guy. One who was able to do the things that the smaller players’ did. So one day, when I was 11-years old, I decided to go outside to the family basketball hoop and take a shot. The basket was originally for my sister, so this was my first time ever shooting a…

I just remember that it was the second year of basketball for me when I was in 5th grade when I stood for the first time in my game.
