What Does Adversity Mean To You Essay
“All the adversity I’ve had in my life, all the troubles and obstacles, have strengthened me… You may not realize it when it happens, but a kick in the teeth may be the best thing in the world for you.” This quote by Walt Disney can say something in all of our lives. Young or old, we all have day to day obstacles or conflicts. Some worse that others, but all equally important to our success or failure in life. I have encountered many circumstances throughout my life, from death to life, from happiness to mourning, but all have made me the man I am today. I remember it like it was yesterday; the sound, the screams, the pain, but most of all the sickening feeling knowing that I was the only one left to tell the story. I find myself going back …show more content…
Thinking nothing about it we proceeded with the conversations and laughter. But in a few short moments the laughter suddenly stopped and turned directly into frantic shouts. The guard rail crunched as we barreled straight through it and over the edge of the bridge. So many thoughts raced through my mind in that short time of the fall, but I remember what I saw when I opened my eyes…black. I felt dizzy and helpless, until I noticed that I was the lucky one. I quickly ran to the crushed car to check on my friends, who had not been thrown from the vehicle. As I got to the car, the doors were crushed shut and my only option was to break the window in a last attempt effort to save my friends. As I got one friend out I carried him up the side to the highway. As I got to the top, a vehicle slowed to a stop as he saw were in trouble and covered with blood. I handed my friend off to the good Samaritan and franticly got back down to the car. As the sirens and lights filled the night sky I pulled my other friend out of what was left of the car. As I got him on the ground, I was met by the rescue team sent to help us. They helped me up the side of the bridge and to the ambulance. As the paramedics pulled the body bags over my friends faces, the

“Adversity has the effect of eliciting talents which in prosperous circumstances would have lain dormant.” What the Roman poet Horace was saying was that when there is an obstacle in our way, our true colors will radiate. I could not agree more. When we as human beings feel passionate about achieving a goal, we may learn something new of ourselves, maybe a new trait that we did not know we possessed, when we reach new heights we did not know we could push ourselves towards. Challenges are similar to tests. Challenges are faced every day, but how we respond to them determines how strong we really are. Prime examples are superheroes and students that move dramatically.…

Throughout the world there are many different people who go through different trials and tribulations. Human history and existence today would not be what it is if we didn’t have to struggle a bit to get what we want. I feel this also applies to an individual person’s life too. There are beautiful qualities about life, and other things that’ll make you wonder why you’re here. When these dark times come, and yes they will come, don’t run away from them and fold up and hide. Overcoming is about accepting the issues at hand and trying to find an efficient, effective way of working around those issues. You can not be stopped by a problem that is in front of you, you can only stop yourself. Giving all of your ambition and effort to work around your problems in life, is the only way to succeed. Personally in life I have seen people with great potential and leadership skills become terrible leaders due to their lack of patience and will to succeed, only because they had difficult challenges ahead of them.…

Because of the challenges in my life--my parents divorce, my fathers cease of contact, and my development of dystonia--I have learned to take the high road in the face of adversity. Maybe it's because I look at everything as a lesson, or because I don't want to walk around angry, or maybe it's because I finally understand. There are things I don't want to happen but have to accept, things I don't want to know but have to learn, and people I don't want to live without but have to let go. I am thankful for every adversity I have had in my life. They were difficult to get through but because I have faced them I am a more kind and compassionate individual who has a more complete understanding of the human condition.…

When you were usually the most athletically talented girl in school, failure wasn't even a thought; until you start playing with the boys. I figured since I was stronger than all the girls maybe I could work out with the boys. We started to squat jump on an elevated platform. “Add another one, add another one” they said. Trying to keep up with them I started to add more. Until the one fatal moment when I jumped up and fell right on my butt. I wanted to curl up in a ball and cry but that would have just made me look soft. I mean the boys already looked at me like I was soft because I was a girl. I wanted to prove them wrong but for someone on top, that fall made it seem as if I had plummeted into the depths of the abyss.”I told you she couldn’t do it. Just face it girls can't jump as high as guys.” I thought to myself maybe they were right, who was I kidding they'll never respect me as an athlete.…

Malcolm X once said, “There is no better than adversity. Every defeat, every heartbreak, every loss, contains its own seed, its own lesson on how to improve your performance the next time.” I have had a time in my life where I can be compared to a carrot, egg, and a coffee bean. Everyone faces adversity in life, but not everyone reacts the same way. I have had the opportunity to grow in all three forms.…

Adversity is a bellowing thunderstorm waiting to strike. Parts of people’s lives that nothing is bad, is a life of ease, but sometimes a loud crack of thunder could bring up frightful events that could change how people view themselves called adversity. Adversity is when an event occurs that negatively, or terribly affects someone by letting them find their true self. Adversity ranges from a lot of different events that could happen to a person that has a negative effect on that person’s personality by making them realize there true self. If someone has a death in their family by a very close relative, or another scenario war is abruoting and these events could make a person find their inner self. These are adversity because there are a lot of things that can happen to a person that will totally destroy them inside, like if they have witnessed a horrific murder, or a crime, it can scar them for life. The way you cannot find your true self is ease because ease is when a person is getting everything they want and they don’t have to do anything to achieve, the person has a freedom from concern. An example of ease would be instead of trying to fight to be able to keep a persons’ house they would use someone or something to pay for them which would be ease because they don’t have to do anything or go through hardships that can change a person. This is an example of ease because when someone is getting everything they want they aren’t going through adversity which only leads to ease. Ease does not change a person; adversity is key to help discover their true…

Watching the hard working, caring people people in my life transformed me into a efficient and versatile person. I’ve watched my father and grandmother work hard to support my siblings and I. My father would go to his tedious job and come back home looking like he pulled an all nighter. Although being so tired, he would always check if I did my homework correctly and if I was okay. My grandmother, who takes care of my siblings and I, works hard to take care of us. Although she would always deal with my little sister’s constant wantings, she would always pick us up from school, buy us food, and take us to the zoo when we were little. My friends that maintain a 4.0 or higher GPA work very hard to maintain it. Some of them stay up until one in…

The memories left imprints that I can never forget in my life. I still go there sometimes in my dreams, seeing my mind’s eyes every single detail, sound and smell that I can still clearly remember. That wasa close to death encounter. The morning was cool and resplendent. I was on just another typical drive to school despite I was late.Because of the belated departure, I went fast, maybe too fast. It was no big deal I am driving fast asthat was my usual route to school. I was not paying much attention to the road. Suddenly a car swerved into my path and I had to take evasive action to avoid collision. Then, from the corner of myeyes, the lamp post was approaching fast.I slammed my foot down on the pedal attempting to salvage the situation with an emergency break butI failed. The tyres blazed the rough asphalt road when it screeched with a high-pitched sickeningsound piercing the quiet surrounding. With my eyes sealed tight, I could feel my body float off theseat. Then, I heard the huge earthshaking thump.I received a violent jolt and my body hit the steering wheel and the windscreen. I could hear the crashof metal being twisted at the moment of impact before the engine died to lay the car in a heap of fume.In the blink of an eye, the world was turned upside down. When I finally got myself together, I waslying about 20 feet from the wreckage. I know, I was thrown out of the car with a terrific force. How I landed on the ground I could not definitely say. I felt the tremendous shock. I could feel myheart beating rapidly. I did not know the extent of injuries except that I could feel pain here and there. The throbbing pain was indescribable. Before my eyes were losing the power of holding a purposefulsteady gaze, I could see shards of shattered windscreen glinted under the sultry sun. Those bloodstained ones gleamed like rubies. I made a vain attempt to get up. I felt I could not.In the meantime, people gathered around, and there was usual fuss and excitement with a little…
