What Does A Tattoo Mean To Me
My tattoo embodies my life… Everything on this page means something that’s genuinely important to me.

In the centre is an outline of Mufasa from The Lion King. The reason why I chose the quote "Remember who you are" is because I feel like I occasionally forget what my purpose in life is, especially at the moment I go through things that I just dislike that I wish I could never go through.
Close to the quote is also a cross to show that I believe in Christianity and there are flowers on the cross because it reminds me of Jesus hung on a cross. There is also a symbol of hope. This is an Adinkra symbol for my family as my family has a lot of hope. My family is really close to me, my older sister is always there when I need help and my parents

The shape of my shield is the classic shape. This shows that I’m an old soul. I prefer a lot of older, more classical ways of doing things. (Except school. I can’t sit still in a cold room to save my life.) I chose red because it means strength and is for a warrior or martyr. I view myself as a warrior/martyr for those that are scared to speak out because I was once that person. For the symbols I picked wings, a dragon, a cat, and a unicorn. Wings represent swiftness and protection and I chose this because I protect others. I can also be very fast when I want to. Dragons are the guardians of treasures and are the bravest of all creatures. I’ve been told I’m a brave person, and I sometimes feel as if I am guarding treasures. The unicorn is a symbol of purity and virtue. This is on there as a contradiction. I am nowhere close to being pure or virtuous. I mostly just love unicorns.…

I chose this passage because of the mention of oranges. “Oranges are not the Only Fruit” is the title of the book, so as I read the passage, I immediately noted the reference to oranges. This struck me as interesting upon first glance, and I decided to delve further into the meaning behind the repetition of the symbol and what it stood for.…

My symbol and the Suicide Tree have more parallels than just meaning. As a child being a member of the church was something that seemed out of reach and not something that I wanted. Just as the Suicide Tree is thought as a giant of Gene’s childhood (Knowles 3). However, that fear was soon dissipated once I understood what it meant. Gene’s fear of jumping out of the Suicide Tree was completely gone when he jumped after Finny fell (Knowles 28).…

In “Tattoos on the Heart,” by Gregory Boyle, Boyle experiences how to deal with gangs. The novel, a compelling story about gang violence and one man’s response towards giving those buried within it, tells a story of gang members working for a chance of redemption and solace. Can others be seen as fathers or even as a role models when gang life is such a large force in their lives? Through the story gangbangers that try to change themselves for the pursuit of a better future and a desire to succeed and escape gang life, Boyle tells an emotional, human story about life in the Los Angeles barrios. Boyle characteristics represent him as a father for three gang bangers: Joey Cesar, and Scrappy. While others around him resorted to violence as the only answer to gang activity, Boyle was one of the very few that used love, compassion, and the promise of a hopeful future as a tool to combat poverty and the oppressive nature of the gang members’ circumstances. The three gangbangers and their journey towards being functioning members of society embodies the qualities of Boyle as a father and mentor they never had.…

I currently have four pieces that mesh into two larger pieces. On my left arm there is a demon surrounded by cherry blossoms, and there is also a geisha holding a fan covering half of her face. The cherry blossoms indicate a new beginning surrounding my inner demon and the geisha represents inner beauty and outer beauty. On my right arm there is a samurai mask depicting my strong side and also an octopus expressing my ability to adapt to tough situations that approach me. This is my way of expressing the struggles and conflict in my life, while also expressing strengths and joys. My parents believe that if I wanted to express those emotions that I should write a book or speak about it. They grew up in a generation where tattoos were not popular and the only people that got them were sailors and people in the military. But the tattoos have meaning to me, deep meaning. I will remember what they represent for the rest of my life and they will never lose their meaning to me.…

Tattoos have been around for thousands of years. This form of body art is accepted in parts of today’s society, not all of society. This has always been true. The second symbol that symbolizes me is a family tree. A family tree symbolizes me because my family is one of the most important things in my life. Growing up, I always spent lots of time with my family. We always went to the beach and to the mountains every year. One reason my family is such a big part of my life is because I know they will always be there for me and I will always be there for them. In the end, if my friends go away, my family will be there for me. Another reason my family is so important is because I have such a big family. I grew up with 4 sisters…
