Some shoot themselves, while others kill friends or siblings after discovering a gun. Here are more scary stats: Americans own 200 million firearms, and 35 percent of homes contain at least one gun. Last year, a study conducted by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention found more than 1.7 million children live in homes with loaded and unlocked guns. This argument over whether gun control laws should be strict is nothing new to the world of politics. The ideas of gun control consist of laws that either keep away firearms from people, or allow one to keep guns for personal protection. They also control who the guns are being sold to and who can own them. In America, each state government has passed many gun control laws. Firstly, exposing children to guns and gun education will take away from the curiosity they might have later in life that would have led to an issue or incident. Sex education has shown that this method is effective because when a child is educated they will have a greater understanding about the dangers and other aspects of guns they wouldn’t have known about beforehand. Just like Jamie O’Meara (2000) was saying “that sex education is taught so that kids will have a better understanding of how their bodies work, why they feel sexual desires, and how to act (or not) on those desires”. Children will gain the confidence to make responsible choices when it comes to gun use and resulting in making better decisions. The media puts this image in children’s heads that there is something fun about having a gun and also that it gives you power and you can control people with it. This is most definitely the wrong message to give out to children, and with gun education in schools students can be taught the practicality of gun use. Similarly to being taught the reality, being taught gun education in schools disappears the glamour surrounding children are exposed to and brings forth the consequences of gun use and abuse. By removing curiosity children have in guns we will see a decrease in the misuse of firearms and media influence as well as stronger…

Guns do a lot of bad, but do a lot more good for society. Banning guns will not stop the problem, but will just make it worse. Guns are apart of our society as Americans they have been around since colonial years, and are not leaving anytime soon. “The number of guns in America has increased by more than 50 percent since 1993, and in that same period the gun homicide rate in the United States has dropped by half. (Kristof, The Times).” Guns offer protection for individuals. One day you could be in the wrong place at the wrong time, and a shooting breaks out, you will pray there is someone else there with a concealed firearm to help control the situation while waiting for police to arrive. They can’t do that if guns are banned. “We need to understand that we cannot stop crimes and murders. And banning guns would be a step, or two, backwards instead of moving forward in the right direction (The Times News).” The research conducted to produce this paper was drawn from a multitude of sources all with different…

Gun ownership is constitutionally protected by the Second Amendment to the Constitution, which concerns the right to bear arms. However, it does not mean that anyone can simply walk into a store and purchase a gun and that is all there is to it. Federal law sets the minimum standards for firearm regulation in the United States, but individual states have their own laws, some of which provide further restriction, others which are more lenient (Masters). There are many reasons why Americans are against gun control in their country and why they feel it is something they should be entitled to. Owning a gun is part of the American consciousness, it is part of who Americans are because it is guaranteed by the Constitution and therefore it is a birthright, many believe that firearm ownership by law abiding citizens can reduce crimes, and it provides American with the right to individual…

The problem being crimes committed using fire arms. What the Government fails to recognize is that criminals do not abide by the laws, taking weapons away from law abiding citizen will only give the criminals more means to do harm. There is a law against braking and entering but criminals still do it. There is a Law against stealing, yet criminals still continue to steal. So what will taking guns away from Law abiding citizens do? Absolutely nothing other than make citizens more vulnerable to the criminals. While a study was found between 1980 and 2009, shows the States with restrictions on carrying concealed fire arms had higher gun-related murders(ProCon #2). This will also be the first and only Law that amplifies the problem rather than helping. If criminals want to have guns they will find a way to get them. Taking away legally owned guns does not get rid of the illegally owned guns. The Gun Control Law will give criminals the upper hand, they will be more likely to shoot innocent people to get why they want, expectably know there will not be bullet fired back at them. The reason Gun control has not affect on murders is because the killing is not being done people with legally owned…
