Brave New World and 1984 are not so much warning, but wise examination by both authors that we have total control of our own lives. We have enhanced tools and created things for our well-being, but it is up to us how we choose to handle them. For example, cell phones, they have become so technologically advanced that it is hard for us to stay off of them. They have a web browser and an app for everything including several social media sites. Social media can be quite an invasion of privacy if you let it be. Similar to how their privacy is completely invaded in 1984, with the usage of telescreens and thought police. Social media is used as an example because although it’s public, it is still …show more content…
In brave new world they use a drug called soma. Chapter three frequently says “ending is better than mending”. It is an awful quote repeated several times, meaning, instead of trying to fix something just throw it away. Similar acts are happening in the real world. A British psychiatrist worries that antidepressants are not being used to prevent severe depression but merely to get rid of unhappiness. 1984 describes a government where you are spied on at all times by “big brother”. Like when Mahmoud Abdul-Rauf refused to stand up for the playing of The National Anthem because of personal religious convictions. They suspended him from the baseball league for such actions. It is a legal right to express religion and he got penalized for doing so. That is recent proof that our rights are slowly getting taken away.
In Brave New World the author demonstrates how science is used and abused. In the story they found a way to artificially create life and train a cast system upon toddlers. Brave New World has many different plots. Mr. Foster says “The lower the caste the shorter the oxygen” that is cruelty that some are born into which is unfair. Throughout the entire book Huxley demonstrates how ruthless humans can become if they let technology determine their
