What Are My Professional Goals
My professional goals are as a License Professional Counselor licensure, and with that, work with women in crisis, specifically with unplanned pregnancies, teenage pregnancies, human trafficking survivors, and domestic abuse survivors. I have a great appreciation for lay counseling in the church, and the many ways in which the church of Jesus Christ has been caring for souls for millennia. I would like to receive my Master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling because I believe counseling is something God has called me to as a profession, and as such I believe receiving a high degree of theological and scientific training is essential to excellence in the field. Specifically, I would like to study at Liberty University because I believe it offers the best integration of faith and academics that I have seen. Currently, I am finishing my undergraduate in Psychology-Christian Counseling through Liberty’s online program, and I was impressed at the quality of the counseling program. Counseling is somewhat of a unique field to study as a Christian, because of the animosity generated from the secular psychology field towards Christianity, and vise versa. Having studied psychology at a previous university, I was somewhat disappointed at the approaches I saw to solving this paradox: …show more content…
Between the CACREP accreditation, which certifies a high-quality academic education, the true dedication of the professors to mentoring their students to become excellent professional, and the dedication to a Christ-centered everything, I believe that I can both be greatly impacted by the Clinical Health program, and I hope to grow in my relationships with my professors and other students. When I visited Liberty, I was on one of the walls of the Behavioral Sciences buildings the words: Faith, Science, and Practice in Motion, and that was a significant motivation in my final decision to

It is important for Christian counselor to have some form of training of theology and psychology so that they will be able to effective in their sessions. The importance of training whether it is formal or informal would allow the counselor to cover all issues that the client may present. If a counselor lacks knowledge and understanding in theology or psychology this could hinder the process of being able to integrate theology and psychology within the session. McMinn suggested that there is an important element that must be presented when one is seeking to be Christian counselor (McMinn, 2011). That element consists of understanding spirituality and the formation of spirituality (McMinn, 2011). If a Christian counselor lacks the knowledge of spirituality and the formation of spiritualty they would not be able to perform and handle the client’s needs when it comes to spiritual needs. ‘…

Mark McMinn’s book, Psychology, Theology, and Spirituality in Christian Counseling, 1996, brings theology, Christian spirituality, and psychology into the counseling responsibility. Faith, true, honest, heartfelt faith is his unceasing, steady, melody. McMinn just doesn’t just focus on using Christian doctrine in therapy sessions with your clients. He spends an equal amount of time coaching and educating on the invaluable importance of spirituality in the counselors life. Christian counseling strengthens three areas of a person’s life: sense of self, an awareness of human need and limitations, and confiding interpersonal relationships with God and others. When we are right with the Lord, when we walk in the Light, we led by example. We led by example at church, in daily living and in our profession.…

Mark McMinn, the author of the book Psychology, Theology and Spirituality, did an excellent job discussing the aspects of psychology, theology and spirituality, and how they can be integrated by a Counselor. Each chapter opened with a real life example of what it would be like to not properly integrate psychology, theology and spirituality. Christian counselors are charged to incorporate spirituality in their personal lives and properly display these same practices with their clients. Christian counselors are individuals who seek and successfully become trained in counseling theories and techniques as well as theology practices such as using prayer and scripture. “This type of training can rarely be accomplished in the classroom. But it calls us to lives of spiritual discipline and a personal love for scripture” (McMinn, 2011, p. 139). According to McMinn, the goals of Christian counseling are multi-faceted (McMinn, 2011). Most counseling maps are focused on mental health. McMinn (2011) presented a healing map. This map displayed the link between self-sufficiency, brokenness and the healing relationship and how they relate to the core foundations; prayer, scripture, sin, confessions, forgiveness and redemption.…

I would like to pursue counseling as my career and become a successful leader in the field. I have always had a passion to assist people in emotional distress. As a qualified professional in the counseling field, I would be able to identify their problems as well as offer them the most appropriate solutions that may help them deal with their situations. However, working as a professional counselor requires that I possess the relevant skills and knowledge that would enable me to offer quality services in which I think that I can obtain the skills at Capella University. As a professional clinical counselor, I would have to deal with clients with different problems, so my role would entail listening to their problems, preventing further damage/harm as well as relieving them from the psychologically based dysfunctions (emotional, nervous, mental and behavioral dysfunctions). In addition, I would have to create conducive environment for them, which promote their personal development and well-being. Consequently, I would therefore have to provide both vocational and educational planning for the patients. To achieve this effectively, I would require training that would enable me to administer and interpret various psychological personality tests as well as the standardized tests of memory, functioning, and intelligence. A clinical graduate degree in counseling at Capella University would enable me to get the necessary licensure that will grant me the authority to practice legitimately. My interest in counseling developed early when I was still in high school, where I offered fellow students advice on their personal problems; with time, my reputation as a great advisor grew and most students and roommates at the school often consulted me for advice. This interest developed further when I had an opportunity to offer…

I was taking a few classes this summer for my general education classes.…

The ranking combined with the program in the final stages of becoming CAAREP accredited are factors that have affected my decision to enroll in the Spring semester. After Graduate School, I hope to have my PhD in psychology or my doctorate in psychiatry. I would like to start out working in jails, talking to criminals and analyzing their brains versus the brain of an average adult to study how the brain reacts with criminal activity and why they do and feel what they do. I have heard that a person can not do that type of work for very long because it is emotionally tasking so after that, I would like to open my own counseling practice up. I would do either marriage and family therapy or focus on teenage depression. Eventually, I would like to retire into school psychology or become a psychology teacher. Also, if I ever have enough money, I will buy a house devoted to taking in stray animals…

My professional goal is to become a teacher with hard work and dedication I know I can reach my lifetime goal. For my extra-curricular activities, I have attended the Head Start at Brookhaven Community College where I have volunteered over thirty hours in a semester to get myself prepared for the profession. Going to the local Head Start gave me the opportunity to see if this is really what I want to do for many years. I put myself in a position where I actually enjoyed what I was doing, I had patience which a lot of people don’t have to teach younger kids. I worked with three to five years old, I had to show them I was the leader. In my four years of High School, I have taken my time out to be a leader in my school. I was vice-president freshman…

When it comes to my education my short-term goal is to finish out this school year and maintain my current GPA. I find it easier to motivate myself each day if I have set in stone grade goals in mind. My long-term education goal is to finish my Associate of Applied Business degree in spring 2017 and my Associate of Arts degree in spring of 2018. I have enough classes and credit hours to finish a second associate degree in two part-time semesters. My short term career goal is to continue where I am until I graduate and learn as much as I can from those around me. I find that the people around me at my current jobs are very intelligent and it would be wasteful of me to not learn what I can from them before I move on. My long-term career goal…
