What are Advertisements?
ADVERTISEMENTS.

An advertisement is a notice to buyers, giving description and piece of all sorts of things. It is needed for the convenience of consumers and the profit of producers. That is to say if good things are not advertised bad things will be pushed up. As population increases and markets become wider, the advertisement of goods becomes inevitable.

There is a great need to advertise goods in an age of commercial competition, if properly done, advertisement can help public in choosing and buying the best on the market.

But every good thing becomes bad when abused, so it is with advertisements too.Today, ads have multiplied to bewildering extent.Infact in news papers, on billboards, in electronic media there are more ads than the news. The danger is that the people are misled by the dishonest people who push up sales of useless things. Since print and electronic media has overwhelming influence on people in this age, people think whatever comes in print & electronic is true.

The basic problem is, our country is yet old fashioned in many ways. The masses are uneducated. If they can read, listen and write, but still can’t understand to differentiate between good and fake things.

There is another danger of abuse of advertisements is more spent on ads than making of goods. The reason is that advertising cost a good deal. This money invested on advertising will increase the cost and price of goods.Else,if prices are not raised to meet the cost of advertisements, the alternative is to use cheap and second rate materials in the making of the goods. In either case it would be harmful to the public health.e.g medicines, cosmetics, tonics, foods items, drinks and much more.

But these dangers of advertising do not mean that advertising is bad. But we must use advertisements for letting public know what good things are available. The motive of advertisement should be public service, not private gain.

Advertising is used regularly by companies to showcase their products to the masses. But there is a downside on how they show their products to people, ad 's are often seen in newspapers and on television, some of them are so ridiculously non-related to the product they are selling that it becomes a popularity contest between companies on who does the best ad, in specially on television. Advertising should not be permitted to show anything non-related to the product. Because it can seduce the audiences into buying something they don 't need. Ad 's can be used to fool people into buying something that 's harmful for them. Advertising should be all about the product, describing it and explaining on why you should buy it, but most of the time they are misleading. This mean that they only mention the name of the product and nothing else about it and show a bunch of non-related things within the product.…

On the other hand, ads can introduce you to helpful products. For instance, one time I was looking for a product that can help me keep my papers organize, I saw an ad on a product to keep papers organize, I brought the item and it works wonderful. However, another time I was suppose to go to the convenience store and pick up some common products, I saw an ad on a billboard on my way there, on a product that I did not need, got distracted from going to the place that I had started out to go bought the product that the ad was advertising. When I finnaly arrived home happy with the purchase, I was quickly disappointed because it wasn’t what I needed and I didn’t get the things that I wanted. However, advertising can cause chaos to society because it urges people to buy unnecessary items that only companies can benefit from. Their desire to sell is powered by the greed of wanting more money. Advertising "create unfulfilled desires and they push us to buy the products that we do not need" (source F). Also, that "desire for profit and the appeal for a "healthy economy" has led many companies and governments to put aside the necessary moral responsibilities in the age of the global market" (source F). Companies give advertisements of car models for rich purposes, but most people do not need many cars. The advertisers know that, but still insist on advertising for their own profit.…

Advertising Advertising, is defined as the act of informing or notifying; or to call the public's attention to a product or service especially in order to sell. Advertising is by far the most visible way in which businesses present information to the public. Over the years, advertising methods and objectives have stirred up quite a bit of controversy dealing with certain issues. Those who criticize advertising are concerned with specific practices linked with advertising. Critics are especially concerned with advertising which is directed specifically towards certain groups which they feel are "vulnerable." These groups include children, the poor, and the elderly. Other issues which strike up some opposing views toward advertising are advertisements that exploit women or use fear appeals, advertising that uses subliminal messages, and the advertising of products such as tobacco or alcohol. Many critics believe that advertisements manipulate the public into buying or doing things they otherwise would not do without the aid of the advertisements. With this paper I will discuss various aspects of what is considered manipulative advertising. "The Inconclusive Ethical Case Against Manipulative Advertising," written by Michael J. Phillips will help us to better understand the different viewpoints and arguments of the critics in regards to advertising.…
