While growing up my parents put me in all kinds of sports; baseball, basketball, soccer and the list goes on. One day, at the age of six, while my mom and I sat at the dining room table looking at the Sunday paper we saw an ad for cheerleading tryouts. She thought I lost my mind as I beg her to let me try out. She failed to realize that eleven years later I would still be cheering competitively and won many national titles from coast to coast.…

The pain my legs felt after practices was an indescribable feeling of hurt and success after a good practice. And that feeling still sticks to this day. At lunch, I was presented with a question that I knew was to come. “Did you make the team”, one boy asked. I told him that I didn’t know and hid the truth; I didn’t want to face the fact that I was on the lower team compared to so many other people. So, when they asked me what team I made, I was forced to make an important decision: What should I do now? But more importantly, how could the B team possibly help me in any way? So, I had to find a way to somehow accomplish my goal.…

I remember the first day I met someone that played basketball, and was interested. I was in second grade, in Japan. I didn’t play any sports. I wasn’t athletic or tall. I had been thinking about playing a sport, but the decisions were between soccer and baseball. Then, one day my classmate, Yusuke Kudo, came up to me and said something shocking. “Do you want to play basketball?” he said. Basketball wasn’t a popular sport in Japan. I knew what “basketball” was but I didn’t know if I was interested in it. “I don’t know... I’ll think about it.” I replied.…

After playing against other teams I realized how much passion is poured into high school football, now that is what really drove me to get better. The people you meet is one of the best parts of football, the relationships you form. The reason football has changed my life so significantly is because a football team is like a family, in a way they are like brothers you can always count on to have your back when no one else does. I wouldn’t trade football for anything else in the world and I don’t want to stop playing anytime…

Growing up in the Hoosier state, my favorite sport has always been basketball. I remember learning to shoot my first basket on my Little Tyke goal when I was four years old. In grade school I played basketball, football, and baseball. I did really well at all three and they just came natural to me. In high school I stopped playing baseball and focused only on basketball and football. Again, I did really well in both. I was the youngest player to start varsity in each sport. I was a starting forward in basketball and started at tight end in football. I went to a catholic school that was recognized for their high level of academic and athletic achievements. Despite all the time I devoted to athletics, I still did very well in school. My school had always done well in football so it made it hard for a basketball player to get noticed on our schools team. Therefore, I decided to try out for one of the top Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) teams in the state.…
