Wellesley Education
#56: The way in which we change the composition of entire fields of study. Many colleges advertise that an education at their institution will help you change the world, yet an education at Wellesley is proven to have that impact both for their students and the students’ chosen field. An education at Wellesley is more than a degree it is an instilled love of learning and a drive to keep advancing, that is why 80% of Wellesley graduates continue on to graduate school at the country’s top institutions. This excites me as I know I will be in good company at Wellesley. Receiving a travel grant to Discover Wellesley Weekend further cemented what I know to be true, that students at Wellesley care deeply about their field and work hard to push new boundaries within it. I aspire to make a difference. In 10 years I hope to be an expert in my field

I remember the first time I received a written assignment with a prompt I found uninspiring. At age 10 I commented to my mother how unfair the whole assignment was, “Why would the teacher choose a boring prompt? How can I write something if I am limited by the prompt?” Eventually I learned to manage and adapt to each written assignment in school, but still felt stifled by the lack of selection. What is inspiring about the writing classes at Wellesley is that you can choose a topic meaningful to you and grow as a writer. Your time in a writing course at Wellesley builds a strong foundation for written communication, academic success, and creative expression. Wellesley’s approach to required writing is open and restores students with the power of choice after years of being herded from English classes in a chronological order. Writing is an essential skill, not only do we learn from our experiences in school but also through what novels, poetry, and journalism we consume at our leisure. I see the required writing courses as an opportunity to reach my academic potential and cultivate an essential
