Weight Training Journal
Participating in weight training has taught me many things about the importance of maintaining a healthy lifestyle and ways to keep a fit body. As I progressed over the semester I began to set future fitness goals for myself. My goals are to build more muscle in my arms and abdominal area, increase endurance aerobically and adjust to a healthier diet.
To build more muscle, I will eat more protein (meat, eggs, beans, and nuts) and gradually use heavier weights as I progress. To increase my endurance aerobically I will do cardio exercises, (mountain climbers, push-up planks, burpees, masons, and crunches etc.) and jog/sprint more frequently. I set this goal to stay toned and to improve my running. Lastly, to adjust to a healthier diet, I will

Wrestling, the world's oldest sport and still considered today the most difficult and grueling of them all. When wrestling the wrestler must decide what the best weight class is for him to wrestle at, most of the time this means losing weight to wrestle at a lower class and although it is not seen that often bumping up a weight class may occur. Wrestlers will lose weight at any costs and this has been proven to be very fatal in the cases of Billy Saylor, Joseph LaRosa, and Jeff Reese. These three athletes died from malnutrition, dehydration, and over exercises while cutting weight in order to meet the dead line to wrestle. These wrestlers were trying to lose more then five pounds a day before the weigh-ins after already losing more then fifteen pounds from the beginning of the season…

So we started the program and firstly in our group we started doing upper body work which was fine, it did get tough in some of the exercises we did mainly because we tried to do much but luckily we didn’t get any injuries so we carried on with it and with that I noticed improvements in my upper body strength within that period of two weeks. Also I was working at that time so I would have gone in the gym more times but I could due to that but also because of where I work and the department I work in, you’re having to constantly take out cages and pallets, the cages can weigh up to 500kg and the pallets can weigh to 1000kg and above and that also helped as well with improving my body strength and fitness as well so that also helped. The strengths of this was that my upper body strength has improved and that I am able to do the same exercises quicker. And that I have got a better muscle definition now to my arms and shoulders now. The weaknesses of this was that I wasn’t able to come in any more due to engagements with work and also course work and rugby training. Also I was getting very fatigued with my upper body and I was getting the occasional strain which affected my performance at work and college. Improvements and changes to the fitness program:…

My fitness plan was to focus on strength and cardio. I chose a powerlifting workout plan that focused on the three compound lifts, this helped with my strength. I also ran 3 – 4 times a week to try and improve my cardio. Before every workout I would do Static stretching and after every workout I would do dynamic stretching. I would exercise 6 days a week doing each compound lift 2 times a week. Progressive overload is something I would every other week. I was doing a split routine so my workouts were 45 minutes maximum. After my main lift I would do a bunch of accessories that would help me with the lift, using everything from resistance bands to free-weights.…

My short term goal was to attend the gym at least once or twice a week. My long term goal was to consistently go to the gym more times a week. Sadly, I did not reach either goal. To this day, I have yet to step a foot in the gym. There were days where I told myself that I would wake up early the next day to go to the gym or go for a run, but I never seemed to wake up. As the quarter went on, attending the gym seemed more and more impossible as my workload increased. Even though I did not go to the gym this quarter, I still hope and have goals for attending the gym next quarter.…
