Weevil's Cruel
Weevil is bleeding! That cruel Warden Gossel hit him on the head with the butt of an ax. Oh poor Weevil, I have never seen so much blood. That’s not necessary a bad thing, head wounds always bleed like that, right? I tried to wake him up, but he just twitched, and grunted. Okay, at least he is conscious now. I shook him a little, and asked him he was okay, again all he gave me grunt. Then he mumbled something like, I can’t remember, then he stopped. My mind raced to a couple years ago. A farmer in our village, got kicked in the head by his mule. He had a head injury just like Weevil’s, and forgot his wife. At the time Weevil and I thought he was faking it, to get revenge on his wife for all the times she yelled at him, but now, I think he

When his two nearest companions pulled away his clothes and looked at his neck, they had said him a solemn farewell in expectation of his death. We 'll meet again in a better world, they said. He was classed among the dying and put aside on a cot to do so. But he failed at it. After two days, space being short, they sent him on to a regular hospital in his own state. All through the mess of the field hospital and the long grim train ride south in a boxcar filled with wounded, he had agreed with his friends and the doctors. He thought he would die. About all he could remember of the trip was the heat and the odors of blood and of shit, for many of the wounded had the flux. (Frazier, 4)…

When Usama and his cousin Layth al-Dawla approached the Thief and another man they learned of the Thief’s intentions. After learning the intentions of the Thief, Usama and al-Dawla rode off and set up camp for the night. Upon awakening the next morning they rode out on their horses to wait for whatever the Franks were going to do. They then came across the Thief, whose leg and foot were covered with coagulated blood, who informed them of how he had stolen a horse, a shield, and a spear. The Franks had chased the Thief and wounded him with a spear to the thigh, which afterwards the Thief made light of his wounds as they had happened to someone else (Munqidh 54).…

Walking down the corridors I again ask myself why life is so cruel towards some. A man, no younger nor older than myself trapped, hospitalised for the final months of his life. He had his whole life ahead of him, a budding football star and small-town musician with a loveable personality and smiling eyes. Whilst talking with many of the town’s residents eagerly awaiting updates on his condition, they began with anecdotal experiences they had of Jacob. A member of his football team quoted “You can only fail as many times as you do not attempt.” I stopped dead in my tracks before turning and sprinting back towards the hospital room. Ignoring the incredulous looks from those around me I barge into his room and repeat the inspirational words I had heard not five minutes previously. “What the hell are you on?”…

Anyone can say that what you hope for always doesn’t come to past, and then you may lose hope of it ever happening. It is possible to give up and live in despair or even defeat. This is very similar to Karen Van Der Zee, the writer of “A Secret Sorrow portrays in her story. Karen uses the characterization, tone, and irony to show how love is more than a feeling.…

Larry suddenly woke up from a deep sleep. The sun was dazzling his half-open eyes, and he couldn’t figure out what time it was. The door to his room was closed; the house was immersed in some sort of reckless silence. He slowly got out of his bed and approached the bench right next to the window. For a moment, he thought, he heard a tapping sound coming from the attic. Then again he heard the sound, only this time it seemed to be somewhat closer. He looked outside the window and saw a man going by the left side of the road. On seeing Larry, the man approached his garden’s fence and whistled. At this point, Larry recognized Nick and waved his hand. He quickly got dressed and was about the get down to open the gate, but he again heard someone murmuring in the other part of the house. Larry decided to go to the attic and see what was causing this, now buzzing, sound. He got to the second floor of his house and looked toward the attic. He quickly opened its door and looked inside. Nothing was found. He was about to turn back and attend to his guest when he, suddenly, slipped on the stairs and fell. He called out to Nick to help him get up.…
