Weekly Reflection: Re-Up And Clarifying Concepts For Students
Weekly Reflection #2
This was my first week planning instruction for the full week. Students are becoming used to my being there and some are warming up to me, some are not.
In my first period class, I am struggling with keeping the students engaged and the large amount of students that are absent each day. I am frequently having to re-teach concepts because everyone is in a different place. This week I focused on helping students catch up and clarifying concepts for students before I taught new material. I decided to do a Venn diagram activity, to help provide a visual of the differences between the two major concepts we are studying, photosynthesis and cellular respiration. This week I also played a review game with the students “Jeopardy”

Week three was highlighted by the discussion of fixed assets and the use of accounting for depreciation of those assets. Businesses utilize depreciation of their fixed assets to take advantage of the tax breaks that they receive. The cost of depreciation of assets lowers the taxable income of a company and in turn allows either a higher refund or less owed in taxes. Another option that is available is the use of accelerated depreciation. This option allows for companies to accelerate the depreciation of assets to a current year's return to gain a higher tax break. The use of this tool is usually implemented in times of economic turmoil to stimulate the economy.…

The information that I was having a problem with in last week’s reading was dealing with Notes Receivables. I was having a hard time taking in why and where it would be coded on the books. I took a little extra time this week to gather information so therefore I could have a better understanding. Notes receivable is an asset of a company, bank or other organization that holds a written promissory note from another party. For example, if a company lends one of its suppliers $10,000 and the supplier signs a written promise to repay the amount, the company will enter the amount in its asset account Notes Receivable. The supplier will also enter the amount in its liability account…

When writing at the college level there are expectations for a student according to their Degree and Course number. In this class Eng147 falls under the Undergraduate degree with course numbers between 100-299. The expectations for the style are of a title page which is to contain paper title, student name, course, due date, and faculty name. The next style expectation is the format. A paper must be double-spaced, 12-point font size, 1” margins on the top, bottom, left and right, and should be in Times New Roman, Arial, or Courier font. The format may contain errors. I guess for me I am struggling with how to forecast and predict what is important enough to know what criteria is relevant information to use for the success of my organization. Since I only work in one area of the whole organization how do you predict when you are not privy to important information to know what direction to go in. I am hoping to learn how to think way outside the box and be able to see the bigger picture. One question I do have though will the company be as successful if I only concentrate on the success of the area I work in? I get how strategic management can be beneficial to an organization, and I get how ethics should play a role as well. I see the way people have done wrong actions in a company is almost like having cancer in your organization. It can slowly take over or be swift and destroy a organization. I see both issues in my work place. People riding the cuff of what is wrong behavior and out right breaking the rules. All of that behavior disrupts the goal of the organization to run effectively and efficiently. Looking forward to further discussions.…

Reflective practice includes seeing learning as an iterative process. The significance of reflecting on that process has been termed ‘action science’. The process of learning is perceived as a complex social activity that cannot be reduced to simplistic thinking. Reflection plays an integral role both in the action and learning from the action. The reflection proposed here involves an openness that needs teachers to challenge their own assumptions and continue to improve their skills. It includes articulating what is normally unsaid and facing up to the distinction that exists among espoused theories and theories in use. It is a reflection that requires the explicit documenting of the shifting understanding of the learning experience, not just…

A thorough analysis of my experience in Writing 101 taught me many things. A major takeaway from this class is never to overestimate my abilities. While taking this course, I was also trying to handle two other classes, a full-time job, and a hormonal teenager. I feel I personally overestimated my abilities. Prior to taking this course I did not have a strong background in writing or English for that matter. I honestly feel writing is my weakest subject. I know I will have to retake this course. When I do retake the class, I will undoubtedly ensure I do not have any other distractions. I must take this course as a stand-alone class. I also will make certain this be a face to face course. I feel the lessons in this course are exquisite. However, I should have asked for help sooner. I now…

The peer teaching lesson I created was on graphing through problem solving in an inquiry-based environment. I had a broad idea of what I wanted to accomplish, and with the help of my professor, peers, and host teacher I was able to create the lesson that accomplished the concept I wanted to sharpen. My host teacher gave me some ideas to keep the students engaged, because she was afraid if there was a lot of wait time that the students would get out of hand. My professor gave me the idea of showing pictures of charts and graphs, whereas my peers strengthened my overall lesson. With weeks of trial and error, I was able to create the graphing lesson that had all the aspects I wanted and zoomed in on the idea of graphing through problem solving.…
