How can we reduce poverty in the United States?

Has the United States peaked as a world power?

Will receiving a college degree improve your career opportunities?
Once I choice this question immediately my enculturation barrier surfaced, because as soon as I read the question I said to myself well yes it does, and I believe I said that to myself because that what we have all been taught by our parents, teachers, and media, so that’s what I know to be true. After realizing that I allowed my barrier to surface I stopped and started to ask myself questions that might help me figure out what the answer really is on my own. I asked myself things like, where is there proof of this? Are there facts that will support what I currently believe? After going through the series of question in my head I started doing some research. After I completed my research I found information that did support my original thought, but there was also information that I found to be informative but didn’t really go with my thought process. I found things like, “College grads also tend to make more, which many view as a benefit. According to a study by the Pew Research Center, over a lifetime of work, the typical college graduate earns $650,000 more than the typical high school graduate. (The study also found that college graduates have more stable employment.” (“Finding the Value in a College Degree,” 2014, para.). Which shows that having a college degree can benefit you. The other information I found that was informative was that “A college degree doesn't guarantee high earnings. This benefit will depend on your intended major and school.” (“Finding the Value in a College Degree,” 2014, para.). This tells me that just because someone has a degree it doesn’t mean that they will make more

The article “The Return of the Overeducated American?” by William R. Doyle shows the two sides of the argument on the topic if college is worth the cost. College graduates also have greater potential for promotions which increases their income allowing them to provide a better lifestyle for themselves and their family. Individuals work their way up within most fields because higher positions are more well paid. On the other…

In the article Is College Worth It? Clearly, New Data Say by The New York Times explains that college is more valuable then it was before. It explains how college graduates are feeling more overqualified for the job that they do. Due to the fact that they are getting paid as much as with a degree that they had. It also explains that college graduates who actually graduate with a four-year degree are going to get paid more salary-wise then they did before many years ago. One of the major downfalls was that they aren't getting paid the wages that they should be. Therefore I believe that pursuing a college career and attending university is worth it because you have the opportunity to expand your education, you'll eventually be paid more than…

The second reason why I think that college could benefit you more than not going to college is because of health and happiness. Another statement made by Susan J. Demas on the website eduguides.org is states “. Those with college degrees have better health, exercise more, and smoke less. This is related to the fact that their employers are likelier to offer better health plans and perks like gym memberships.” This clearly states that people with college degrees are more likely to be healthier and more likely to be offered better health benefits meaning they are more likely to stay…

“Skeptics like to point out that the income gap isn’t rising as fast as it once was, especially for college graduates who don’t receive an advanced degree.” (Leonhardt). However, college degrees have been proven to help people make money in jobs that never needed a degree. (Leonhardt). Citizens with a degree have been proven to progress further ahead faster with a degree in jobs which do not postulate anything but a high school diploma. In studies, adults who did not attend to college to obtain a degree feel like college graduates make up to 20,000 dollars more a year than themselves. (Pew Research Center). Not only can a degree help people progress further ahead, it can make workers more money and they can begin to pay off what college debt they may have. In addition, college graduates also have much more job security than a person who does not have one. (Leonhardt). Whether it’s taking care of a family or just taking care of themselves, nobody wants to worry about having a job the next. After all, degree has significantly more purpose than just sitting on a…

Firstly, college graduates make more money over the course of a lifetime and have more job opportunities than people without degrees. College graduates on average make about one million dollars more in a lifetime than people with only a high school diploma. This is because college graduates have a better chance of getting and keeping a job, and these jobs pay more. The main reason for this is that there is less competition for jobs that require a degree so there is always a need for employees which means more job security.…

Many people agree to disagree on college. There are plenty of people who do not attend college, and they find their way to the top. College gives you the extended learning skills that employers will look for when you're finding a job. The authors repeatedly express several statistics, including, “14 percent of people with a high school diploma make at least as much as those with a bachelor’s degree, and 17 percent of people with a bachelor’s degree make more than those with a professional degree.” This statistic also all depends on the major you want to pursue your career in. The choices a student makes about his or her field of study and later in a job can have a substantial impact on what he or she gets out of her degree…

It seems in the society we live in today, having a college degree is a necessity. Years ago it was the norm for people to just go right into a full time job after high school, if they even finished high school; they did this to support their families. In today's society a person has a difficult time getting a decent job without a college degree. During an adults working life, bachelor degree graduates will earn about $2.1 million and a high school graduate can expect to earn an average of $1.2 million (Day and Newburger, 2002). This is quite a difference and it puts a college education in perspective. With college come the skills needed to be successful.…
