Week 7 Discussion Questions
There are many ways that a company can motivate its employees. Consider the different types of pay and benefits described on pp. 420–423 of the text. What type of incentive do you think is most effective for creating a motivating work environment? Why?

Creating a motivating work environment can be a difficult task. Employers need to consider the needs of employees and the average pay rates for the work required when determining salaries and benefits. To keep employees motivated, it is important to offer incentives and pay raises for good performance. When employers base their raises on the merit pay system, they will encourage their employees to work hard to earn a high raise. Also, providing employees with bonuses when they accomplish a designated task will keep them encouraged to work hard. One thing that employers should consider when determining the salaries and benefits of employees is health insurance. Many people cannot afford for health insurance to come out of their base pay. Therefore, if employers pay for the health insurance for full time employees, they will be more likely to keep employees. Although paid time off and sick days are luxuries that employees appreciate, health insurance is the most important benefit that an employer can offer.

There are many advantages and disadvantages when it comes to plea bargaining. Among the advantages the defendants could possibly receive a lighter sentence, they can end up with a lesser charge, and most importantly they move through the criminal justice system a lot faster than if they were to fight a case. As for disadvantages both the defendants and the victims would be affected by plea bargaining. The defendant might not be guilty however he/she knows not enough evidence exists to prove their innocence and so they accept the plea, thus accepting punishment this not deserved. Victims are affected by plea bargaining because they almost always feel cheated as though the accused did not get what he/she deserved and as though justice was not served.…
