Goal Setting Worksheet

Review this week’s resources (for example SMART criteria, and the Career Plan Building Activities). Respond to the following in 50 to 100 words each:

1. Describe one academic goal that you have created using the SMART criteria. How do SMART criteria contribute to your academic goals?.

The long academic goal I have created using the SMART technique is to pass college. The SMART Criteria break down the goal to make it more understandable and specific to my needs. A more recent goal I want to achieve is getting through my us/101 and my fp/101 classes without any problems.

2. Describe one professional/career goal you have created using the SMART criteria and Career Plan Building Activities results. How did the results of the Career Interest Profiler and Career Plan Building Activity on Competencies contribute to your professional goal development?

Using the SMART criteria it helped me develop a goal of getting more information on the job I want to do once I am out of college and have my degree. My goal was to talk to someone who does what I do and get more information on the job I want to do. I sat down with my step dad who does a Tech Support job and talked with him for about 2-3 hours about his job.

3. Describe the stress and time-management strategies you have learned this week that will help you achieve your goals.

This week I’ve read about many time-management strategies and the one that stuck out the most was having a planner on you at all times. After reading about this I went ahead and set up a schedule in my phone to follow and boy howdy it has been very convenient, it has helped me tremendously complete all my work on time.

4. Describe how you will balance academic expectations and your personal and professional responsibilities.

I will most likely be able to balance all of my academic expectations in college between my person responsibilities

SMART goals are a very efficient way for me to break down my long-term goals into shorter, more specific and measurable ones. Using SMART goals as a part of my personal plan helps me set milestones to see what needs to be achieved; by what time, and in which order, so I can reach my ultimate goal. They have taught me how to use a rewards system for achieving my goals. This way, I am training myself to; work now and play later, so to speak.…

Career Interests Profiler and Competencies Understanding my personal competencies will help me improve my critical thinking skills by not making quick decisions, analyze and think about what I do before I do it, and striving to see improvement in my work and coping with pressure. Making quick decisions has always been a problem I had. Instead of thinking about a situation and the effects it can have on me and others I always just jump right into a quick decision. The career competencies survey made me realize I need to think about others in my decisions making, and work as a team to come up with best solution. Doing this will take the pressure off of me worrying about the outcome of my decision. Since taking the survey has showed me that I know how to follow directions and can adapt to change, Upholds ethic, and values. I am organized with planning and activities working with a group and using critical thinking skills should come with ease. Critical thinking can help with working with others on projects, meeting deadlines and coping with pressure from others. Everyone should use critical thinking skills in any situation to avoid misunderstandings and arguments. In the business world critical thinking is very important you don’t want to offend anyone or lose a deal because you didn’t ask the right question or make the right decision. Taking the survey will help me separate facts, and think about outcomes. In doing this my work can be accurate and fair. If I stick to these values I will be able to evaluate a problem or argument before it happens. In an argument I can get the facts, analyze the situation and take the fair approach. I do realize everyone is not going to like the outcome of my decision but knowing what my competencies are will make me feel that I evaluated the situation and made the best decision for the company.…
