Week 1 Dq 1 & 2
DQ 1:Do you think that all six dimensions of health are equally important? Why or why not? As far as I'm concerned, 'health' refers to the choices that we make each day that affect our bodies and minds.
Our health changes according to everything that we do.
This includes things like the food we eat, the people we spend time with, and the intellectual stimulation we give our minds.
The effect that these have on our bodies are all included in the idea of 'health.
''Wellness' sounds more individual to me.
We should all be trying to reach our personal wellness goals.
Personally, I put the most effort into my physical health, emotional health, and spiritual health.
I think that everyone has a different point of view about what aspects of health are most important to them.

DQ 2:Does being physically healthy equate to having overall health and wellness?
Being physically healthy doesn't equate to having overall health and wellness.
Although being physically healthy is a big part of having overall health andwellness, there are other factors to consider when looking at the big picture.
I think you can be in good shape but still have other problems that can really take a toll on your health as a whole.
On the other hand, I think being physically healthy is a good way to build upon your overall health.
So even though being physically healthy isn't the only thing you should be thinking about, it is definitely really important.
I believe being physically healthy is just a little piece of the big picture.
I believe I am a physically healthy person in general, but there are some days I am drained emotionally, and mentally.
These days just being healthy physically just can't cut it.
In reading this chapter I think I do a pretty good job in keeping a healthy well rounded life.
Just being physically healthy isn't going to work if everything else is out of

I know for me being spiritual healthy makes it easier for me to be emotionally healthy. I have to be happy and feel good about me with is hard but I am learning it is ok not to be perfect as long as you are happy with your body, mind and soul. I know that I feel all around better when I can work out in some way whether it be working out, working in the garden or taking a walk. It is important to take care of yourself by eating healthy, protecting your skin with sunscreen, not going outside when the pollen level is high for me. Enjoying a good movie that makes me cry can release stress and tense as well as watching a movie that makes me laugh so hard I cry. Before reading this chapter I would have defined health as just being about physical activity because that is all I was taught about health. I was taught that health was about having your body in a good condition and eating the right foods. I did not know that there was so much more behind health. Now that I have read this chapter I have learned that health is not only about doing physical activities to keep your body in shape. Health is about having a positive, optimistic outlook. You can have so many dimensions of health such as of course, physical health, spiritual health, social health, intellectual health and environmental health. Physical health refers to the way that your body functions. This includes eating right, getting regular exercise, and being at your recommended body weight. Physical health is also avoiding drugs and alcohol and being free of disease and sickness. Spiritual health is maintaining harmonious relationships with other living things and having spiritual direction and purpose. This includes living according to one’s ethics, morals and values. Social health is the quality of your relationships with friends, family, teachers and others you are in contact with.…

Most people will think of physical wellness as how they are feeling, whether they are sick, tired, or injured in some sort of way. According to Harper, he defines physical wellness as the ability to perform daily activities in a safe, capable, and efficient manner, as well as the physical capacity to respond effectively in unusual situations (2008). Harper further mentions that there are five components of physical wellness, such as cardiovascular fitness, muscular strength, muscular endurance, body composition, and flexibility. If a person does not have physical wellness then they are at an increased risk of a lifestyle disease such as hypokinetic disease, diabetes, and obesity. Qualities of a person that inhibits physical wellness, as discussed by the Mayo Foundation for Medical Education and Research are controlling your weight, combating health conditions and diseases, improves your mood, boosts your energy, sleep better, put the spark back into your love life, and physical fitness can be fun (2011). Furthermore the general goal is to aim for at least 30 minutes of physical activity every day in order to attain the above qualities (Mayo Foundation for Medical Education and Research, 2011). One way of getting started into a goal of being physically well is to check your Body Mass Index (BMI), hip to waist circumference, and partaking in…
