In 2012, Colorado voters approved the sale of recreational marijuana, as did voters in Washington state. The first state to legalize cannabis is Colorado they began on January 1st but there are requirements, you must be 21 and up, you may not buy more than an ounce a day, an ounce is about 200$ . Cannabis is the 3rd most popular drug in America. Washington as a result is also starting to legalize cannabis. Voters wanted this and the law is now in the Colorado constitution after 65% of voters said yes to legalizing recreational marijuana. Colorado wasn't the only state to ok this in November 2012. Voters in Washington also said yes, but that state won't open marijuana retail outlets until later in 2014. Weed is now legal in Colorado but only when bought by a licensed retailer, many are still buying weed off streets for cheaper price and more effectiveness, that is illegal and you can be sent to jail. The first week alone, the first state to sell weed for recreational use is Colorado. Buyers waited in line for hours to be a part of first recreational marijuana shop in history. Colorado has influenced other states. But Colorado is the first state recorded on history to have the pot shops up and running under regulations recently established by state and local governments while already legalized Medical Marijuana .
