The article presents Weber’s argument regarding social stratification in contrast to Marx’s. In his discussion of his theory of social stratification, he outlines three ways in which society is divided: by class (economically), status (socially) and by party (ideologically). He argues that the individual identity is not determined by the class identity, and that status and party identities often cross class divisions.…

    > The sociological perspective is described as seeing the general in the particular. In this essay I will attempt to apply the sociological perspective to analyze song lyrics from the first verse of the song My Block by Tupac Shakur (see appendix for lyrics). Tupac (1971-1996) is the most famous gangster rap artist of all times. He was well known for his lyrics and their ability to express the grief of the Black community. He was an advocate for Black rights and very much against the societal system and class societies. Many say he exaggerated the conditions under which the Black community and the lower class were in because he was a wealthy man rapping about suppression. To other’s he was part of the petite-bourgeoisie, but he was consistent in attempting to better the conditions under which the lower class were in.…

Compare and contrast conflict theory with structural functionalism. Pay special attention to the way that each theory treats the origin of social change. When it comes to the origin of social change the conflict theory and structural functionalism differ in many ways. Structural Functionalism stresses that society as whole, including the individuals, families, educational system, politics, and the economy come together to create a functioning society. But, if any one part of these social institutions experiences dysfunction then the whole society pays a price as if it were a domino effect. For example, if families fail to discipline their children, schools, churches and the courts must take up the slack. In the end, whether it is a positive or negative change, the society as a whole must adjust in response to a transformation in a social institution. Conflict theory does not see society as a whole coming together well for one purpose. The conflict theory proposes that conflict and tension are the basic facts of life and are what make up social change and ultimately society as a whole, but it puts more emphasis on class conflict (bourgeoisie vs. proletariat). Together, both of these theories are from a macro analysis perspective.…

Data about crime is collected through official statistics that are mainly based on police records where crime is reported to the police, and then the police records it and keep the records to provide measure of trends in different types of crime. Official statistics on crime are published by the Home Office. These records provide official accounts and indicate the police workload as well as being useful for an analysis of patterns of particular crimes. However, even though the police have a statutory obligation to record crime, some go unrecorded just because they have some discretion to decide how serious enough a crime is to warrant their attention. So, police crime statistics do no account for the total volume of crime living an unrecorded figure of crime. (A. Pilkington, 2005)…

I am approaching this paper with a full knowledge of the limitations an individual confronts when attempting to observe a particular social interactive setting in an objectionable perspective. The setting I chose to observe was in notorious drug related area in main street, Worcester. I was in my vehicle across from a place where drug occur at 3:00 pm on Saturday. Today there appears to be more action taking place than what I usually observe from my car while I’m passing through this neighborhood. One can see how a behavior is considered deviant, but the question is, “why is a certain type of behavior considered deviant?’ This paper will take a particular deviant behavior, which is drug use and examine why this behavior is labeled as deviant. By using theoretical approaches, this paper will provide the reader an explanation of how the society using drugs. Throughout history, all human societies have used drugs, but it hasn’t been until recently considered deviant behavior. Drug use was seen only as a personal problem, but today’s societies, in general, condemns drug use. There are many reasons for this perception of drug use in our society today.…

The human infant comes into the world as a biological organism with animal needs. He is gradually molded into a social being and he learns social ways of acting and feeling. Without this process of molding, the society could not continue itself, nor could culture exist, nor could the individual become a person. This process of molding is called 'Socialization'.…
