Electric Cooperatives: Powering Potential
Elease Holmes, Jason/Jennifer Holmes, 696 Nubia Rd. Westmoreland TN, (615) 888-3018

Portland High School, Helena Baier, 861 words

Ping! Zing! Zap! Ding! “Finally my machine is finished!” exclaimed Lizzy. Lizzy had been working for the past year to create a device to let her travel between dimensions, and finally all her hard work had paid off. “Now to test it” she said in an excited voice. Lizzy presses the button and opens the hatch. As she steps inside she can’t help but feel ecstatic knowing that she would be the first person to discover different realms. Then, with the press of the big, yellow button at the bottom of her remote, Lizzy was off to discover some random unknown world. After about five minutes, Lizzy had arrived in a place that she knew wasn’t going to be much fun at all; this world was dark. Even after spending only ten minutes in this new place, she could feel the amount of debt held by everyone that lived there. She decided to do a little research as to what had happened to the once vibrant place known as New York. Lizzy began asking the locals what had happened, and it seemed that every story was the same. “No one would listen to the electric cooperatives when they told us that we needed to conserve. We all thought they were after our money and were speaking nonsense when they would host public announcements about their whole Green Power Switch business. It wasn’t until it was too late that we discovered that electric cooperatives are non-profitable, voluntary organizations that are democratically run. We know now that they only wanted to help save us from this dark realm,” responds a passerby when Lizzy asks him how this happened. Lizzy had heard enough to know that it was time for her to leave, so she climbed back into her machine and decided to travel to the next dimension, hoping for a brighter outcome. Finally, Lizzy

I come from Charlotte, North Carolina, one of the most up and coming cities in America. My town is a beautiful, flourishing area with a lot to offer to a variety of people. With such diversification, we have not integrated our neighborhoods, schools, or the social scene nearly enough. Communities can become racially prevalent leading to separations in culture and heritage. I can see this in the high schools throughout the area during our football games or competitions which is depriving to everyone involved. Leaving people unaware of their surroundings creates a bubble of ignorance. Mallard creek provides so much culture as it is is zoned for so many areas, however, other schools are not provided the opportunity I am. As the severance continues,…

I am applying for the position of medical receptionist at Cooper, Wolowitz, and Associates at your Ephrata location. I am most interested in applying for this position with your office for the weekly hours, salary package, sign-on bonus, and medical benefits package. The office hours are great being Monday through Friday 7:30am to 4pm and one Saturday a month 7am to 3pm. The salary package is pretty inviting with $13.50 an hour, Holiday pay for all major holidays worked, and 1 week paid vacation after 1 year of employment. The sign-on bonus of $1,500.00 after 6 months of employment is an added plus. The medical benefits package consisting of medical, Dental, vision, and workman’s compensation is also an added plus being extremely affordable. Secondly, I became very motivated and excited to work in the Medical Administrative field because of a family member whom I was very close to. My Great-Aunt was a very positive and influential person in my life who taught me to follow my dreams and always stop to help others. She always taught me that the medical field was a growing and awarding field to work within which ever branch you decided to work in. My Great-Aunt always said “To work with in the medical field in any aspect will always fill your heart and life with joy.” This has always stuck with me as I grew up and when it came to deciding which path to take in life I always thought back to what she said. I realized I would love to be in the medical field because I love working with growing families, our aging population, different kinds of other people, and mainly because I love the office aspect of the field. I feel I would be a vital asset to your team of office workers because I am very good with computers, well organized/detail oriented, an effective communicator, and work very well with others.…

I sat in the bathroom and clicked the pause button. Stopping myself, I went outside and slowly gathered my thoughts, or what was left of them. I was just the ripe age of nine but for that day, I felt like I had more knowledge than the average person over the age of forty. Every rule and barrier and been deconstructed and thrown in a blender only to be pieced back into a new form almost alien-like. Everything that I was ever taught up until that date was void, mixed-up, and plain wrong. I hated it. But being my morbidly curious self, I went back in the bathroom and pressed play, hoping that maybe I heard something different. Maybe I was just going insane. Nothing changed. The same cacophonous sounds still shattered not only my ears but my thinking.…

I believe that I am capable of being in the CJ Hooker's National Junior Honor Society because I am very aggressive in my studies and strive to prove my excellence. I really want to be accepted because I love to outpace my school work and I have been in honor roll ever since I started middle school.I also take in 8th grade Studio Art classes. My intention for this year is to stay in honor roll and have A’s in all of my classes. Personally, I love to surpass all my studies. I wish you weren’t at the Academy because I never get to talk to you! You should have fucking listened to me and go to a “lower educated school” so you could still be my friend. I hope everything is going well with all the nerdy guys you are living with, since you fit right in. Was boot camp really hard? Are you super big now? ;) Do you get hazed and yelled at a lot? I would not be digging that! How’s the baseball team? Any cute boys? Do you play A&M at all this season cause that would be so cool if you did….I would secretly cheer for you (if you even play). Have you met any cool girls like me that love talking to you even though you don’t listen? I hope I haven’t got replaced! Talking about girls…how is Madi? I saw that she went and saw you,…
