Was Moses Leader Material? In this essay I will give evidence to support the fact that Moses was not fully capable of being a great leader, using solely Exodus chapter 2. Although I believe that He was not fully leader material, I must also point out that He was not completely void of all leadership capabilities. But for the purpose of this essay, I will be showing scripture that gives validity in stating that Moses was not an extraordinary leader. I will start off by showing that Moses was, to some extent, a bit impulsive. Secondly, I’ll suggest that Moses was not careful about the way he reacted or acted through a couple separate situations. And lastly, I will touch on some scripture communicating that Moses might have been a little less than competent communicator.
In this verse it states that Moses noticed an Egyptian beating a Hebrew slave, and Moses decided to inspect what was happening. The part that I would like to bring out the greatest is that, instead of finding the reason for the beating, he (Moses) impulsively jumped in and killed the Egyptian. Now some might say that, because he made sure that no one was around before killing the man, he was not that impulsive. But the transliteration of the word “looked” in this verse, Panah (paw-naw’) simply means to turn, face, or look upon. And I will agree that he did look before killing the Egyptian, but according to the translation of the word, he made a quick and careless look. Consequently, because of this impulsive action, he was left with no other choice but to flee to another
