“To the people Caesar was more god than man. Mindlessly they worshipped him.” Julius Caesar was a hero, not a tyrant. Caesar did many things to help the citizens and the city of Rome, when the Senate would not. Citizens of Rome, along with Marcus Brutus looked up to Caesar. During the time of the Roman Republic, the Senate held all the power. The Senate was comprised of three hundred mean chosen for life, who advised the consuls and assembly. The Senate was also in charge of directed spending, taxes, approving and disapproving laws, and making decisions concerning relationships with foreign powers. The members of the Senate became furious when the citizens of Rome enjoyed Caesar’s rule, because the Senate had ruled Rome poorly, focusing more on their political disputes, than on the Roman citizen’s needs. With the Senate’s poor ruling, Caesar had to take over and restore Rome and its citizens. Caesar was a blessing to many citizens of Rome by supplying the poor citizens …show more content…
People think that because Caesar controlled everything to do with Rome, and left no one else to make decisions, that he was a tyrant. Many say that Caesar was a tyrant because whatever good Caesar brought to Rome would soon be outweighed by his mad quest for power. People believed he was too dangerous. However, stating that Caesar was a tyrant is incorrect. Just because Caesar controlled all of Rome, does not make him a tyrant. The very reason Caesar became in control of Rome, was because the Senate was not doing what was best for the citizens and city of Rome. It could be said that Caesar was powerful and dangerous, but, of course, he was dangerous. He was the leader of Rome, a conqueror, also known as one of the best military strategist during ancient times.
