The War of 1812 was a conflict between the United States and Great Britain The British were restricting the United States’ trade because they feared that it was harmful for the war they were having with France. Also in the Midwest the British wanted to set up an Indian state, so they would be able to maintain their influence in the region. The war started in 1812 and lasted until 1814. America went to war with Britain for many reasons. The first cause for the war was because of the British’s interference with American shipping which is also known as the naval blockade. Great Britain was at war with France. The US was providing the French with food and supplies, and Britain did not like this, so they set up a partial blockade to keep the US away for France. The second cause of the war was because of the impressment (kidnapping) of American sailors. The British were kidnapping American sailors and were forcing them to work on their ships.
